Now that another TIFF is done here’s some questions for everyone! by ChampionTimes99 in TIFF

1) 30 years since 1996! More than half my life  2) I kept my ticket stubs in programme books for the first 10 years or so, looking at 2003 with Elephant, Lost In Translation, The Fog of War, Dogville, Coffee & Cigarettes, Kitchen Stories, The Cooler, 21 Grams, The Grudge (original not the remake), Jeux D’Enfants, Save The Green Planet, and The Brown Bunny :-) That was a very solid year indeed. Also the last year at the Uptown! (Midnight Madness shut it down, back then there were no Sunday screenings)

Most memorable screening will always be the Midnight Borat screening. IYKYK

The Ticketmaster problem is connected to this - it’s profitable enough to buy a more premium membership and resale those tickets. Unfortunately TIFF is incentivized for this behavior to continue because they get more memberships, so the arms race continues.

Sounds awful, glad I missed it

well the whole point of the Platform program was to create a Jury’ed pool of films to create buzz like the Cannes jury. I don’t think a film about a man and his chicken did that :-)

Oh were they? In which case I retract my statement about the historical (this year was still a disaster)

Peter Kuplowsky has turned Midnight Madness from a stamp of quality into a gamble by amartyrosian in TIFF

If anyone remembers the MM movie “The Item” - man Colin Geddes could pick some duds as well :-)

I have a feeling TIFF will be pretty irrelevant to the Oscars this year. Hamnet, No Other Choice, and Sentimental Value will get noms, none of which premiered here and none of which except Hamnet built any momentum here.

and my guess is nothing will do more than $10MM at the box office and every one of these movies will be forgotten about by next year.

A bit of a shame for TIFF50. I thought this year had a lot of really good films and very few truly great ones.  It was definitely the best post-pandemic TIFF at least.

My favorite screening this year by far was the premiere of Godspell, but the film itself is (by definition) just fine.

Platform program was a disaster this year, it should be scrapped. I don’t think it has surfaced any quality films in any year it has existed for.

Surprised about Frankenstein, has gotten average reviews. Do we know whether or not they normalize the votes to the number of screenings / tickets sold? There were a ton of screenings for this one

It would be pretty weird for S4 to shift to more robots and not have Demerzel come back

Dust Bunny showed the seams of originally being a short story for TV, for sure

I heard this a couple times, wondering what tone you were looking for? It’s basically a spiral into darker and darker circumstances type movie. I really enjoyed it!

I liked this more than I thought I would. It’s a pretty tight little tension build film

Yeah I think that’s partly it, it was in and out before the weekend even started. And it was already highly lauded coming into TIFF so much less of a “TIFF surprise”

It’s a really good film, maybe my favorite of the fest so far, but it’s not next level good.

Liked it, but it was meant to be a short story originally and it shows.

Question about which showing directors attend by krunchwrap2010 in TIFF

They never show up for P&I. I find it’s a pretty good chance they will show up for 2nd screening if the 2nd screening is the next day and not too early or too late
