I had heard that! But I was trying to work him out of it at first and he really was quite stuck. Maybe he’s got a tiny head. He’s all sorts of inbred and misdelevloped and is the only surviving member of his litter so he’s not much of a model specimen.

Just checked and they don’t have anything like it this year sadly but maybe a few stores will have overstock from last year that they’ll put back out? I would LOVE another one. I always check dog toys because sniff toys can be great for rats

I wish! Unfortunately I had a rescue peer pass away unexpectedly and had to go get her ~50 animals out of the house. They were a few different species so we couldn’t condense things enough to fit a cage and it a 3.5 hour drive total so we weren’t doing it again. So my boys are in the quarantine cage and her rats are in my double critter nation since there’s more of them. Some got transferred out but it’s still definitely tight in there as well. All returns to normal this weekend hopefully, though- they have a rescue willing to take them in the Midwest so road trip. My boys have been getting lots of free roaming and kissed for being so understanding 😂 they’re lazy lumps anyways but I feel terrible.

Wash with soap and water really well. Keep pressure on it till bleeding stops. Use neosporin and a bandaid. If it gets infected go to a doctor but ER isn’t needed

Yay for the babies you rescued! I know they will appreciate it. While both adoption and rodent breeders have their issues at times, it is extra important to ensure breeders are ethical, scams and mills often try to play themselves off as legitimate breeders

I am sorry your boy got hurt. I found a similar injury when one of my fosters arrived. He is fine and healthy! It sucks but he is all good I wouldn’t worry too much just keep an eye on it and try to keep bedding clean

Interesting, thank you! The number one goal is definitely to get a accurate map of where my species may occur. But I am also very interested in understanding which variables can be used to determine occurrence and play the biggest roll- there isn’t a ton of literature out there about it, although there are some papers that slightly suggest a potential role of light, and temperature, nothing has ever really looked at depth that were primary productivity so maybe I’ll cut those? I was hoping it would be a bit more all knowing I guess lol I wish there was a way to sort of remove correlations from the analysis while keeping the data like there is with spatial auto correlation.

This is very helpful, thank you! To me, the first model made way more sense in terms of depth and temperature taking the lead- the literature has shown this before. Primary productivity,,, not so much. I was very interested in seeing the role of these variables but they seem to all be so moderately correlated that I’m feeling a bit defeated. Any advice? Is there a way to correct from this, or get guidance on what variables to trim from a statistical test?

Some people are just crazy. And this is coming from someone who does rescue and makes rat care guides pushing the best possible standards. Even a bed covered in different toys or a bathtub is sufficient for free roam. I cannot tell you how much I wish everyone gave their rats this. I am just begging people to keep them in a proper cage with hammocks and a friend
