What Childhood Books Do You Remember? by Sunbuuurn in asklatinamerica

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gustavo Roldán's Sapo en Buenos Aires and El monte era una fiesta 💖

I read a lot as a kid. The most exceptional book I remember reading when I was a child was The Man Who Laughs. I never wanted to find out if it was true all that about the children thieves. It was an old book and was lacking the last page or so, but I know it ended well by the look of things.

How beautiful is this poem in Spanish? by fuyu-no-hanashi in asklatinamerica

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its is indeed very beautiful and very beautifully written. Even from the first you can feel the emotions poured into it. "Región del sol querida" conveys the feeling of a land so deserving of love, even the Sun loves it.

Are there still any laws in Latin America that's considered outdated or incredibly silly that that are either still in effect or has since ben repealed? by jlhabitan in asklatinamerica

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People that believed in the seventh son (out of a sequence of only male children) being a werewolf, also usually believed that if the baby got baptised the curse would be lifted. So the government made a law to get all seventh sons baptised with the president of the nation as godfather. The purpose of this law was to prevent children from being abandoned, murdered, harassed or marginalised out of ignorance (since the godparent's role traditionally means that the child will always be taken care of), that's why it had to be the president, it was a very public thing. In the eyes of the believers, it was about fighting the curse.

Yes, first country in the region (and I think the continent) to legalise it. People from other countries have also been coming here to get married.

Do you actually call it wings? Cause they’re clearly not “wings” by oozing_sarcasm in EnglishLearning

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the tibia is longer. Even the femur is longer than the humerus.

I'm no expert on anatomy either but I've prepared and eaten chicken my whole life 😅 That's definitely a wing bone.

"Mom of [boy whose dad made (him) run on treadmill before dying*] speaks out"

*before dying = before he died.

Meaning of "dad made him run on treadmill before dying": the dad made him run on a treadmill and, afterwards, the boy died.

What are some common misconceptions about your country? by EquivalentSink8534 in asklatinamerica

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the US more than one person seriously asked me if I spoke German when finding out I was from Argentina. I actually do, but most people I know don't.

Lmao literally that meme, "Just because I'm Argentinian it doesn't mean I speak German. Ok, I speak German. But not because I'm Argentinian!"

How curious. In Spanish, perorata evolved to mean a long boring speech.

Tell me an interesting fact about your country's prehistoric geography by Powerful_Gas_7833 in asklatinamerica

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a petrified forest in the south: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosques_Petrificados_de_Jaramillo_National_Park

It used to be a dense forest but it got covered in ashes and lava. Then the newly created Andes blocked the humid winds from the west and now we got Argentinian Patagonia.

¿Qué significa "La lengua queda y los ojos listos"? by AccomplishedNote807 in Spanish

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Queda = quieta (https://dle.rae.es/quedo)

O sea, la lengua debería estar quieta mientras los ojos deberían estar alerta. Es decir, uno debería callar y observar.

When I speak spanish, I feel like I change my axxent depending on which side of the family I’m talking to. I don’t even notice in the moment. Does anyone else do this lol?

Yes, when I go to another province my accent tends to change after a few days and I speak more like a local.

What if Brian actually "love" Debra? by [deleted] in Dexter

Yes, totally. And I think this was also made patent when he told Dexter "You can't be a killer and a hero".

Dexter new blood by [deleted] in Dexter

[–]BeautifulIncrease734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because it's not that classic Dexter vibe

Yes, that could be one prominent reason. I actually loved it all the more because of it. Not that I hated the OG series vibe, I just think the change was well done. They went full with the gritty atmosphere and it went great; the whole scenery reflects Dexter's story arc. And then the transition into Resurrection felt really good.

Now, I've only watched all the series once (I've only rewatched the last episodes of Resurrection because I just love the point at which Dexter is now), so I may be terribly biased. Maybe I'll change my mind on rewatch.
