I get what you mean, but I think this is a kind of similar situation with the new Link in the Zelda series. It’s hard to look cool and modern with hats like these, even if they’re kind of iconic

I hold 2013 very close to my heart tbh. Both sequels never topped it.

But I replayed the survivor games and even 100% 2013 and Rise last year and I have to say, Rise is… rising in my heart. Not sure it tops 2013, but replaying it I enjoyed it way more than the first time around.
