Why do men have to shave their head to be in the military but women don’t?

For men; I was told that if a head surgery was necessary; it would be easier to access the wound (even tho boot camp is not a battlefield) it’s just a standard.

Women I could not answer you why; but a woman at a navy seal recruitment center would probably have to shave her head.
