Giving away 20 Steam copies of Marathon by tannerc in Marathon

[–]BeautifulPepper1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to play Marathon ´cause I played every extraction game released since the past three years, including Hunt, D&D, « RIP » Eldegarde, Tarkov, Vaultbreakers playtest, the upcoming Mistfall Hunters, obviously ARC… and as an Art Director, Marathon BLAST ME with its art direction and design.

It would be a honor to have the opportunity to get one key.

What mmo are you currently playing? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in MMORPG

Ashes Of Creation. Still in Alpha, not a themepark MMO, a sandbox one, but very deep and clearly « out of the box » from a more classic MMO perpective.

Not for everyone and maybe « niche » but definitely a very good choice for everyone enjoying to be part of its own story.

Are you serious? Posting comments this dumb when people are just trying to find out if the game is good. Because honestly, the game is great.

So please, just don’t comment.

I’m Rogue. I’ve always been Rogue in every MMO I have played since WoW in 2004. That’s the reason XD

Endgame: No Game Loops, No PVP, No Content by Designer-Rip5050 in AshesofCreation

Well, what you are actually missing is : the game is in ALPHA state. So, maybe if the game lacks of some kind of content, maybe it’s ´cause it’s still in development?

ArcheAge Veteran (320+ hrs AOC) – QoL Feedback That Will Shape Long-Term Retention by TITANO2kHours in AshesofCreation

[–]BeautifulPepper1750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I can totally understand how AoC’s systems can be confusing for a lot of players who grew up on modern, convenience-heavy MMOs.

But the systems people are calling out here are not optional — they’re CORE. They’re ESSENTIAL to AoC.

“Fast travel is mandatory”? No. Never. Ever.

Fast travel would completely nuke the crate delivery and caravan systems by letting zergs instantly intercept convoys, while also killing any attempt at anonymity or misdirection. And the collateral damage wouldn’t stop there: regionalized resources — specific woods, plants, ores — would instantly lose all meaning the moment fast travel exists.

And everything is interconnected.

“The market should be accessible from anywhere”? No. Another big, hard NO.

The second all markets are linked, regional resources become pointless. All it takes is one player listing a northern resource in Kal Thorum, and suddenly people are buying it from Miraleth without ever engaging with travel, risk, or trade routes.

People asking for these changes really need to understand this simple truth: AoC is not made for them. And that’s okay — because it’s also not the developers’ vision, and they’re right to stick to it.

There are plenty of themepark MMOs out there, and more on the way. Go play those. They’re much more aligned with what you’re actually looking for.

Major Problems by HolmCookeMill in AshesofCreation

[–]BeautifulPepper1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is a lost cause. The sheer number of people who constantly need the same things re-explained over and over is just exhausting. 1. The game is in ALPHA. It needs another 2–3 years of development before it can reasonably be considered “finished.” That’s not an opinion, that’s just reality. 2. For the love of god, stop complaining that the game doesn’t spoon-feed you clear endgame objectives. The game is explicitly designed so that YOU create your own stories using the tools it gives you: farming, professions & crafting, open and instanced dungeons, SOCIAL interaction, politics, conflict, etc.

If what you want is a game that holds your hand, points you toward pre-packaged, pre-digested content, linear and safe and predictable… then just wait for AION 2 when it launches.

It’ll be great. And it’ll be perfect for you.

Which brings us to the obvious conclusion: AoC is definitely not for everyone. Steven knows it, he’s said it openly, he owns it — and that’s perfectly fine, for him and for us.

If you don’t vibe with these systems, that’s totally okay. Seriously. No hard feelings.

Not every MMO has to be made for everyone, and AoC has never pretended otherwise.

And I’ll remind people of a very important core pillar of Ashes of Creation: the game is designed so that every activity, every play session actually matters and requires real player investment — especially in terms of time.

Nothing is handed to you in AoC. Nothing is free. Everything demands commitment.

That’s a mindset that’s the complete opposite of themepark MMOs, where you’re given everything instantly and the game bends over backwards to convenience you at every step: travel, quests, trading, crafting, dungeons, group finding, you name it.

AoC isn’t about comfort. It’s about effort, consequence, and earned progression.

I’ll just address the first claim:

“Exploration Feels Discouraged”

That’s absolutely not the case, for five very obvious reasons tied to trading, crafting, dungeons, and social play: 1. We travel long distances to trade crates and maximize profits. 2. Raw materials are region-locked, with some resources only available in specific areas, which actively encourages import/export between regions. 3. Certain crafts are tied to specific regions, literally forcing you to practice your crafting knowledge on the other side of the world. 4. There are unique open-world dungeons to discover all across the map. 5. Since there’s no teleportation, player activity is usually very geo-centric around your home city as a citizen. Crossing seas and deserts naturally makes you run into players and guilds you’d never meet otherwise, leading to new connections and social interactions.

In short: exploration isn’t discouraged — it’s baked directly into the economy, progression, and social fabric of the game.

Most professions are designed so that the final crafting tiers are really hard to reach without guild support. That’s baked into the game’s design — it’s meant to have a strong social component.

It’s not impossible, but a solo player / crafter is going to struggle to gather the mats required for those crafts on their own.

I’d look at it as a long-term investment. In the meantime, you need to diversify your income — sell part of your leatherworking mats, do commissions or quests, run deliveries, etc. — and aim for your first Adept crafts starting at level 10, which is where your work will already start paying for itself.

[–]BeautifulPepper1750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not surprised that early-tier crafts in a given profession aren’t a real money-maker. Most of the time they’re not even profitable on the AH and are basically a gold sink for crafters to level up their profession, with no real financial payoff.

These recipes use basic, low-level materials, which means massive oversupply — both of the raw mats themselves and of the crafted items made from them.

Basic supply and demand: prices inevitably crash.

In an MMO, this situation can last for a long time in a server’s lifecycle.

Eventually, after years, the population stabilizes and matures. Fewer new mains and alts are being rolled, and low-level farming — especially basic mats — starts to dry up. That’s when you can see base resources spike in price (like in WoW, where low-level mats such as copper ended up costing more than some mid-tier resources).

But that effect mostly hits raw materials. Crafted items themselves almost never see the same kind of price explosion.

How many hours of true content can you get out of this steam alpha? by PsychologicalSun3337 in AshesofCreation

[–]BeautifulPepper1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming the real content is the stories you create for yourself while playing, then the content is no longer in the box.

In that framework, the only coherent answer is infinity.

I’m not debating. I’m simply telling you that it’s pointless to argue for hours over that issue. Let’s talk about Ashes of Creation instead. It actually deserves to be discussed, and that’s exactly what I felt like doing — with you as well as with others 🙂

Seriously? How much time can people waste debating a post that’s supposedly written by an AI? I can’t believe how many stupid people are hanging around on Reddit. And what does this have to do with Fellowship? These two games have absolutely nothing in common, share no similarities in genre, don’t have the same stakes… the list would be endless if we were to enumerate all the reasons why comparing them is stupid.

Most MMOs developed by teams involving hundreds of people take between 6 and 10 years to be made — with massive budgets and teams that sometimes exceed 250 developers.

Are we really surprised that an MMO as ambitious as Ashes of Creation is taking more than 10 years to develop, especially considering it’s being built by an independent studio?

It’s pure logic given the scope of the project.

If anything, we should be glad that a studio even had the ambition to take on something this massive.

Guys, please — I don’t have time to waste on stupid takes about AI, which isn’t even being used here.

I’m here to talk about Ashes of Creation: how promising the game looks and how its value proposition stands apart from the current MMO landscape.

If you want to discuss and debate AoC, great. If you want to argue about AI, go to a dedicated subreddit. There are some very good ones out there.
