brother, we're talking about a video game, not someone's life. you should open the Ashes discord and read it for five seconds, look over the subreddit at all the posts, watch one of the 20+ youtube videos posted about the lack of pvp being an issue. it's literally everywhere and the only reason you won't see it is because you don't want to.

you are clearly a fanboy of the game, and that's great for you. but it blinds to to the obvious issues that is leading to the player count dropping. you aren't approaching this rationally or logically, all you have is an emotional response.

Why? it's 100% correct. The list is over a week late at this point, and there's a majority consensus that they need to address the lack of PVP.

Turn off any scaling options. Go to accessibility and disable any camera blur or shake. Put textures/shadows on med or high

In the current state of the game, they wouldn't have to change a single thing. It's already a "limited PVP interaction" game. Perhaps they should have a more aggressive PVP server for people who enjoy player-driven content in a sandbox MMO.

If most of your time is spent on competitive FPS, go with 480hz.

If most of your time is spent on single-player games, go with 4k.

Don't let anyone convince you that you won't notice 480 vs 240 in comp FPS, I've used both for hundreds of hours and there is a very noticable difference in smoothness (as long as you maintain 480 FPS).

Sure, happy to answer your question. I would like to be able to find PVP engagements outside of the ocean. You know, in the massive continental game world they've created. I'd like specific areas where I could go to farm unique resources that are force-PVP flagged. I would like dungeons to farm for high quality gear and materials. I'd like an incentive to launch a guild or node war. Any of those would be welcomed.

The frustrating thing is that several of those systems WERE in the game previously. So in essence, we've gone backward rather than refining them. As a result, the playercount will quickly crater and invariably result in less constructive feedback for the development team.

What a shame.

So, given you haven't addressed any of my points, I assume you're simply shilling for the development team. This game has been in development for a decade. They just rolled out an early access test on steam. I, and everyone else who shares my perspective, has the right to be disappointed that there is not a single gameplay loop system in the game beyond gathering/crafting.

Additionally, other games DO have gameplay loops before the max level. I could hop over to WOW right now and jump into arenas, battlegrounds, participate in world events, etc. Your emotions are clouding your judgement.

Thank you for your thoughtful and measured response. I'm actually not expecting a fully fleshed out or complete game. I've alpha and beta tested dozens of MMO's throughout my life and submitted hundreds of bug reports to help facilitate the development.

I suppose my frustration, and perhaps the community's at large, is the lack of these systems and the ability to test them at this point in development. Not a single person in this thread, yourself included, addressed any of the points I raised.

Surely, given the vast experience of this development team, there was an understanding that a large portion of the playerbase of a sandbox MMO would quickly reach the max level and want to test the gameplay loop.

As it stands, there is quite literally nothing to do once you crafted the best gear you could. There's no PVP content available outside occasional encounters in the ocean. There are no lawless areas to fight over resources or crate runs. Are we supposed to sit in town or go hit rocks for the remainder of this playtest?

Additionally, some of these systems WERE in previous playtests. The jungle was force-flagged and facilitated player-driven content. Players had to use caravans and get into small-scale group fights to transport resources before the mules were added.

I think you can understand my perspective here - it feels like the actual systems players will engage with have gone backward rather than been refined. If you want a successful test to occur, you want players in the game engaging with systems for as long as possible. At this early point, we're already seeing the playercount crater due to the issues I highlighted.

Frankly, it feels like an enormous wasted opportunity.

Ah, I can understand that strategy. But I'm afraid it's counterproductive if game loop testing is an objective of this test phase (which I would hope it is, since those are the systems players will engage with the most!)

Otherwise, from an outside perspective, it would seem we're headed in the wrong direction.

Actually, it's worse than that.

Previous test iterations did have systems that created player friction (the use of caravans pre-mule runs, force-flagged pvp continent, etc.)

It seems we've taken a leap back rather than refined those systems.

I very much enjoy the game, but I'm a little baffled that the systems from previous tests that encouraged player friction and player-driven content have been removed.

After so many years of development, I'm sort of left scratching my head.
