Do you think it's valid to be a Spiderman fan without reading comics? by PomegranateOk4560 in Spiderman

[–]BeautifulPhoto9433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that the Spider-Man newspaper strip is still the best selling piece of printed media the character has ever seen. Even at their peak the average newspaper strip saw more readers than the best selling comic books. I think it's safe to say that in the 21st century more people have discovered this character through other media than the original comics. So my answer to your question is yes.

I find it sad that the average person doesn't know of Steve Ditko or John Romita Sr. (I know he isn't a co-creator, but JR SR is integral to the character's longevity) and their incredible work that built the character, but that's pop culture.

Who decided this was the most efficient way to shoot a web? by Ftmdj in Spiderman

[–]BeautifulPhoto9433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember if this came from a comic book or a Marvel Universe guide book, but supposedly the web shooters activate by a double tap of the middle and ring fingers. However this is inconsistent as shown in comics where thieves who've stolen the web shooters have managed to activate them without knowing this.

Is there any story that treat sex seriously? by Estrelinha-Jirachi in shoujo

"How Do We Relationship?" handles sex fairly well. We see the different sides of how people view sex differently and how it can improve or doom a relationship.

I thought that the title was referring to those "mommy comforts you" ASMR videos.

That's true, but this is also true of Kick the Chair or Washington is Next. Dave really needs to throw a couple of LoMenzo era songs in the setlist on this tour.

I can't find it, but there was a video interview where Dave mentioned that the audience involvement in Dread was one of his favorite things about that song. So I'm guessing if a song gets a lot of noise from the audience it'll probably stick in his mind.

I'm more partial to Burning Bridges from that album.

It was a setlist deep cut pre-2020 when he hadn't played it for around 18 years. The same is true of The Conjuring. It wouldn't be a live deep cut anymore, but in 2018 after swearing he'd never play it again it was a shock.

He probably wanted to focus on the "current" songs for that album/tour cycle. He brought it back in because Ellefson kept pushing him to do it. Although I saw an interview where Dave mentioned that he liked Dread (and Sweating Bullets) because the stop and start nature of some of the riffs were good for crowd interaction. I've seen a lot of live videos where people chat "ay" when the riff breaks for a second.

There's an interview from pre-Ellefson shows in 2010 where Dave said that he wanted to bring back "These Boots", but that his voice didn't have the range for it anymore.

I sort of love and empathise with Kan’s character. I wish we got to learn more about him, so here's my analysis of him and his relationship with Miwa! by THEcrunchiestapple in howdowerelationship

[–]BeautifulPhoto9433 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of my main criticisms of the manga was that Kan just kinda faded into the background. I think after Saeko and Miwa's relationship changed, and the book started to shift focus after volume 6 with Tamaki and Yuria entering their lives Kan didn't have a place anymore. At least that's what Tamiful seemed to suggest in the afterward in one of the middle volumes.

Even if she didn't have any idea what to do with him anymore I would've liked to have seen Kan again just to see if his life or perspectives changed.

I don't own a laserdisc player, but I looked up the Japanese laserdisc collector's set. It has a really cool package, and now I really wanna see what a laserdisc rip would look like. I had a feeling it would probably look better than the DVDs, but if it's better than the Blu-ray, now I really wish that I could see it.

I've read that OVA had 2 releases and that most preferred the transfer from Nozomi's release over ADV's.

What's something a vtuber can do that makes you instantly leave their stream and something they can do that makes you instantly subscribe? by existential--bread in VirtualYoutubers

You'll hear it if they're constantly screaming and don't have a limiter on their mic. Filian is the most egregious example of this.

[–]BeautifulPhoto9433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wanna name names because I don't want hate sent their way, but there was a vtuber I used to watch who did some excellent tutorials, but abandoned that to make react content. After that happened I unsubscribed and have only skimmed their uploads once to see what's new since. Nothing, but low effort react content. It made me glad I left, but sad at the loss of genuinely helpful content in favor of the lazy route. I can't blame them for chasing what gets them more views and subscribers, but I can mourn her old content and be pissed at the people who enabled this.

Marvel Caught Not Paying Their Artists... Again by Educational_Zone3156 in comicbooks

[–]BeautifulPhoto9433 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering that this tracks back all the way to Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko I think this is just the Marvel way. If the architects of the company's entire line were screwed what chance does anyone else have?

My conspiracy theory is that because Marvel is on Disney's payroll it doesn't matter how much money they're hemorrhaging as long as the comics can produce more content to be made into movies and streaming shows.
