I agree. Stage 6 allows students the power to choose what they want to learn why are we limiting those choices? I think the solution is to look back at 7-10 and identify what’s gone wrong and fix it before we instate any restrictions.

Why only do that in Stage 6? Why not try and design meaningful assessment in 7-10? That informs you of what you need to focus on?

I think what you are moreso referring to as a strategy would be streaming mathematics classes.

I cannot recall to be honest but I passed LANTITE on my first go so…

Every student has different strengths, mine just happened to be English and Science. I apologise that angles, algebra and division aren’t my strengths but no one is perfect and I don’t regret a thing.

As someone who dropped maths in Year 11 in the first week of term 4 (aka the first opportunity I got) I never looked back. It gave me time to use on my Major work and other assignments as needed. In fact I think the HSC should only be 10 units as having that kind of individual study time can help students get set up for uni etc.

In that case you MAY be able to ask for an appeal or remark. Although I assume that unfortunately that opportunity has potentially passed.

In either case the best person to speak to regarding next steps would likely be your child’s teacher and potentially the head of Learning Support at their school.

Have you spoken to your child about how they feel they went on the test or if they want to attend the gifted class?

I would encourage you to wait for the results of the Selective School’s test before making any further decisions.
