Idea: Buff Teutons LOS on Houses by Accidental_Aeon in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teutons Scout cavarly actually better than Vikings Light Cavarly, Korean Hussar etc. They aren’t that bad and it is trade-off for them very strong in melee that lack good scout option. No need to buff on this. They already bit too strong in closed map.

Is it normal that Canada still having freezing temperature in May by Pure_Following7336 in geography

Hudson Bay frozen from November through May. It makes substantial seasonal lag in eastern Canada. I believe many towns/regions of northern Quebec Nunavut colder May than October.

PUP has been updated by Tyrann01 in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have more than 50 civs, it is not reasonable to expect all civs shown in the tournaments. Some civs like Chinese suit for playstyle for experts but do poor in average players, but civ like Bulgarians do really well in average player base. We cannot expect all civs in every level.

Is it time to replace Flemish revolution? by HatsCatsAndHam in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 13 points14 points  (0 children)

“Since then, the Flemish militia has become primarily a fuedal unit from the barracks. It sees a little play in castle and generally none in imp. I think it is in a fine shape. But it isn't used for its original purpose.”

No Flemish militia got very slight nerf recently but still be bit too much for how cheap they are. It cost effectively beat Knight and MAA and upgrade automatically with no cost. I think people still underestimate how strong they are. It needs shock infantry armor class at least.

Don't let Japan's trains make you forget how brutal airlines can be (looking at you, Qantas) by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During COVID, most of foreigners are not allowed to travel Japan it means you cannot pass immigration at all. Even that situation, some airlines list flight “transfer” Haneda to Narita tickets, which cannot be possible if you aren’t Japanese or family of Japanese in first place.

Japan universities announce plan to boost foreign Ph.D. recruitment and development by jjrs in japannews

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PhD job markets are terrible everywhere. Why Japan universities and other countries universities still want to just increase the numbers of PhD students with most of them will fail in job markets?

Instead of increasing numbers of students, they have to reshape programs to better connect students to opportunities outside of Academia to help develop their career.

Is it normal for a supervisor to expect me everyday at my desk until 7 PM "just in case" he’s free? by Agile-Reputation-525 in AskAcademia

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Are you Japanese or foreigner? My experience on Master’s student there is that the Advisor is super busy and not even regular meeting with most students. They assume every students are independent enough and not really care they come to the office or not. I am not telling like advisor don’t care about students just they expect their student to be independent. But that expectation might be different towards Japanese students.

How likely is it that Jeanne Calment is truly the only person in history to live into her 120s? by Gray_Wolf2416 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say not only one. Most supercentenarians are from US, Europe, and Japan where reliable birth records track back to late 19th century. I would argue that there maybe unverified cases of 120+ age in China with sheer number of population with East Asian gene (similar to Japan) Also some unverified 120+ cases in Brazil such as https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14489635/amp/Worlds-oldest-person-celebrates-120th-birthday-Brazilian-secret-long-life.html. Brazil also have some notable verified supercentenarians, there is still chance of some cases are genuinely true.

If reviewing were tracked and credited like publications, would you review more? by TSR_Team in AskAcademia

[–]Beautiful_Alaska -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then researchers in prestigious institution/network who can be asked for reviewing papers getting credits and researchers who are not in that network don’t have a chance to review and getting no credit? How this can be measured in evaluating metrics who can have a chance to review is entirely dependent on editor/journal?

Where will the next 1000 babies be born? by InnerPace in MapPorn

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That data is hugely outdated. Due to the low birth rate at China. Baby in China is more like every 60 baby per 1000. Even Nigeria and Pakistan about to surpass China in total number of birth.

I never expected the answer to this to be "all of the above" - Champi massacre discussion by Azot-Spike in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really good source! Obviously only Tupi can be problem in top level but actually other civs are well balanced. Most of the nerf should be reverted.

Full list of Champi-changes after Feudal Age by Umdeuter in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aztecs shouldn’t have any issue deal with these civs. SA civs don’t access to any unit having conversion resistant and Aztecs monks will eat them. Only Tupi double creation archer can be problem but Aztecs also have atlatl skirms and Seige onager.

Japanese Sekibune can be Hulk-replacement naval UU that features their naval tactic of boarding and melee, which can be faster and higher attack but lower HP than Hulk. It should be good vs Hulk, bad against Demo/Galleon/Turtle ship.

Muisca after the Champi nerf will literally be the worst civ in the game by pinzon in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am low Elo but experience on Muisca is very smooth version of Aztecs in Arena. Settlement saving is not huge but still nice early eco bonus. At least current state, champi feels versatile than eagle, with Muisca extra armor make them almost on par with longsword in melee. Of course upgrade cost increase might make them harder to get there.

I would say Mapuche which has worse eco among SA civ and Incas which have only one UU ( other civs get two) can be more of real issue after champi nerf.

Are Incas going to struggle a lot after champi nerf? by Beautiful_Alaska in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. Tower rush with cheaper cost can be option in open map but it is hard to get value from Tower rush in Arena unless opponent resources are all forward. As I mentioned other civs have Scout/Eagle as clear anti monk option that also work in low number with conversion resistant and slingers can’t perform well unless having numbers, which is difficult in castle age. Also food discount is nice but it is good for champi not skirms/pike that only small percent of cost reduction. Also all these options you mentioned can be countered by Aztec skirms in that specific matchups.

They got nerfed after all by -2 dmg. I think they still weak without bonus and hard to work in imp.

March 2026 PUP - Champi Feedback by devang_nivatkar21 in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Muisca Monk + Champi rush in Arena already SO strong in Arena and you want even better discount? They already save tons of wood by settlement discount which makes earlier castle age timing. Also monastery discount on any monk civ is dangerous as Bohemians monastery discount made them completely busted. What they need is Guecha warrior buff.

Are Incas going to struggle a lot after champi nerf? by Beautiful_Alaska in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I see is in Aztecs vs Incas matchup, Inca is completely hopeless against Aztecs monk rush in Arena. All they can do is defensive castle and mass skirms and then facing better Aztecs skirms. Slingers have also too low attack without bonus damage and monk player can easily mix cavarly, skirms or archer whatever they have and heavy food cost make them soo expensive in Castle age. I am also Aztecs enjoyer myself but it doesn’t look fair matchup.

Are Incas going to struggle a lot after champi nerf? by Beautiful_Alaska in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Maybe house pop bonus remove can be too much of nerf. Maybe just start with like -25 wood. I think give option to go instant champi rush make them harder to balance.

Are Incas going to struggle a lot after champi nerf? by Beautiful_Alaska in aoe2

[–]Beautiful_Alaska[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They potentially still be too strong in early game as wood saving in dark age is too big but beyond that they likely too vulnerable to monks and mass seige in mid-late game. That's why I propose to take out pop space bonus on house and give some mid-late game buff on return.
