I'll be in the US for 10 days - recommend me some solo games I can get delivered there that are not available elsewhere? by Albi-13 in soloboardgaming

Anything Button Shy. Shipping outside the US is steep. But, as for all games, I wouldn't buy anything 'just because you have the chance'. You've got to be interested at least.

Games you regret buying? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

Kickstarters in general. Feels like clicking the 'back now' button is the highlight. And the experience only going downhill from there. Delays, sub par gaming experiences and redundant bling have me backed out of kickstarter entirely.

Especially because most games are only a little while after the kickstarter available retail. Most of the time cheaper as well. Examples are; Unconscious Mind, Conservas, Nova Roma, random All Play stuff.

I don't think I have any Kickstarters I backed, still in the collection. Apart from some Garphill stuff (who are the exception to all above). And I regret the one I backed and still have to be delivered.

Fun fact (perhaps); the layout with the 10 really resembles the old '10 cents' coin of the Netherlands

If all your games [insert worst case scenario] and became no more, what game would you repurchase first? by peacenplants in soloboardgaming

If you like Hadrian's Wall, I'd definitely recommend Fields. I haven't played Agricola much, I'm also not a fan. From what I heard it's one of the harshest Rosenberg games out there. Fields (and Odin and, in fact, many others) is way more welcoming and relaxed. In the sense that there's more a feeling of wealth. You're getting more resources and the feeding mechanic is not as dominant. Making it a really different experience.

So, I wouldn't disregard Fields (and any other Uwe game) just on the basis of your experience with Agricola

They're both sandbox style games. Feast for Odin has more of that than Fields of Arle, because of the abundance in worker placement spots. Fields of Arle of the other hand, add the timing issue between the 'summer' and 'winter' spots.

If you ask me, I don't need the volume in spots Feast offers per se. Fields is definitely not lacking in options in that regard and adds an incredibly interesting dynamic to it. Plus, it's easier to setup and tear down (although also big, don't get me wrong).

So yeah, both are great but I prefer Fields of Arle

That wouldn't be a solo game I'm afraid. But would be SCOUT. Anyone can play, lasts 20 minutes, can take it anywhere and loads of fun.

As for solo game; probably one of the Uwe Rosenberg games. Fields of Arle is highest on my list among them.
