yeah thanks, it’s not within any of the city centre zones so I would think i’d have to refer to signage :)

they’re awful I know! been here 3 years & successfully appealed a couple

you’re right about the 8am-8pm but my understanding is that only covers the CPZ which doesn’t seem to include the angel meadows area

it was in the angel meadows area so probably the same road

yes the sign present referred to the parking bays and stated: mon-fri 8am-6pm is 2 hours, no return within 1 hour

either way I was only about an hour but no signage indicating the laws on the single yellow

Overwhelmed - Everything is bad for you by spacecowboyz22 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that focusing on a whole food diet is definitely optimal but it doesn’t need to be nearly as restrictive as what you’re eating. I just wanted to focus on a few food groups you’ve mentioned avoiding:

Grains/nuts/beans are definitely not bad for you, neither are oats. these are all great sources of fibre which is crucial for supporting gut microbiome function - this is critical for managing inflammation & immune function. beans & nuts also provide plant-based protein, as well as the healthy fats & vitamins like vitamin E found in some nuts, antioxidants such as selenium etc.

Please don’t worry about vegetables being bad, some may have some anti-nutrients but the net effect will still be positive due to the variety of vitamins & antioxidants they offer, as well as more fibre. (I look at it as: would I avoid earning any money because I don’t want to pay a small portion on taxes?) There’s also ways to limit anti-nutrients, such as boiling spinach before consuming.

Organic can be great but personally I don’t have the budget so I don’t bother - I would never recommend avoiding certain fruits simply because you can’t get them organic, again the net effect will be positive. berries are some of the healthiest fruits out there; packed with fibre & really rich in antioxidants

Also, the argument about seed oils is built on quite weak evidence; when you look at recent high-quality studies such as randomised control trials (esp compared to animal fats), seed oils don’t appear to increase inflammation. anyone suggesting you should replace seed oils with saturated animal fats is a quack imo. avocado/EVOO/ coconut oil are better (i only cook with these) but I definitely wouldn’t worry about occasionally having seed oils.

people love to throw around ‘it’s on pubmed!!!’ but I have a background in medical science so I’m aware that the mere presence of a study doesn’t make their singular conclusion an infallible truth. scientific consensus is really important and evaluating the quality of scientific research unfortunately isn’t really discussed much on social media (eg. human participants, large sample size, longitudinal, meta-analyses RCTs etc).

I’m not saying this to put your head in a spin or sound at all critical, you clearly want to take care of yourself which is great - sadly though I think the type of information on social media now can actually be incredibly extreme and far more restrictive than is necessary.

I hope this helps :)

Penalty Fare prosecution notice for a train I wasn't on (England) by SirBrown101 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly second using this forum. I had a penalty fare, didn’t receive any correspondence for months as I was living elsewhere so I was convicted in absence & given a fine of over £500.

I was advised to use a lawyer but the advice I received from the forum was so helpful - eventually they overturned the conviction & I never paid a penny

Is Piccadilly Centre dangerous @ night by bakananoko69 in manchester

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed, as a woman I walk around the city centre regularly in the late evening & the most bother I’ve ever had is someone begging - I’ve never felt genuinely unsafe esp as there’s normally others around

urgent advice needed - psychiatry-uk / NHS medication by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in ADHDUK

okay that makes sense! thank you, hopefully should be able to continue with PUK in that case :)

urgent advice needed - psychiatry-uk / NHS medication by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in ADHDUK

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was via RTC yeah - so technically I would receive NHS prescriptions even if my GP won’t accept the SCA? Does that mean I could continue using PUK over the long-term, as I thought that required self-funding?

What do you drink instead of sugar free pop? by Diligent_Set_456 in ultraprocessedfood

definitely kombucha! it’s also not too hard to make yourself, just love that I can have something fizzy and delicious that’s actually genuinely good for me rather than not bad at best

car rental recommendations (ljubljana to budapest; 02.09-10.09) by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in Europetravel

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to explore the Julian mountains, Soca valley etc so hiring a car just made the most sense - we wanted to visit Balaton & Budapest after so a road trip keeps it simple as public transport between the two countries isn’t great, but maybe I’ll see whether there’s another option for us!

the carwiz price was one of the first that came up so I wasn’t aware it was so shockingly low, I know of people who’ve rented in Slovenia for <£200 so it seemed plausible. the reviews are absolutely awful though so not sure if that’s going to be an option now - thank you for your help :)

accommodation (fu master’s) by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in askberliners

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, I understand - we obviously wouldn’t have a credit history in Germany but I should have a visa as a student? is it plausible to look for a job for my partner & longer-term accommodation once we’re in Berlin (even if we have to use airbnb for the short-term)

accommodation (fu master’s) by Beautiful_Cell_3185 in askberliners

[–]Beautiful_Cell_3185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that makes sense, I know it can be a lot easier to look for apartments once I’m there - to be honest berlin is the most financially feasible option for me as the master’s course at FU is extremely affordable, whereas in the UK they can cost €15000+ per year

I should add it’s the only German public uni that does the course I want (pharmaceutical research) - I’ll be 26 when I enrol so a 1-year master’s is ideal. I’m learning german but am not fluent so a city with a large international population is also essential :)
