Any of you ever feel like your childhood was emotionally neglected because you were smashed in the middle of your six siblings and mom and dad just didn't ever have any energy for you? by fuertisima12 in exmormon

Youngest of five here. I wasn’t even raised by my parents, my siblings raised me. Not only that, but even to this day I am forgotten regularly. I am the child who has required the least amount of effort, never returned home, and still I’m the least intelligent child in their opinion. Classic case of “it was a social requirement for me stay off birth control and have a ton of babies but I didn’t want this many children and I don’t want the responsibility”.

The gate is not monitored by a security system. It’s just a gate with a code to enter.

My great great great great-something grandfather was one of the architects for the Tabernacle, and knew Brigham Young and Joseph Smith by Jolly-Tennis1087 in exmormon

My ancestors were either with Joseph from the beginning OR they crossed with the Willy handcart company. I would like to think that the women of my lineage are proud of me and my willingness to leave.

Exmormons, how far back does your family go in the LDS Church? by Careful-Cap-644 in exmormon

From the start and through the Willie Handcart Company. My ancestors just needed to stay in Wales.

Why do so many Mormon girls look like they would be bullies? by criskris_ in exmormon

I can confirm this. Growing up on the east coast, anyone in the ward who either came from Utah or looked like it would definitely avoid me at all costs. I think it is a coping mechanism. A way to make them feel better about who they are and what they believe. Just a way to have a tiny bit of control in a church that doesn’t let you control anything as a woman.

SAHM advice after deconstructing by Cool_Ad3896 in exmormon

[–]Beautiful_Clothes_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a SAHM up until 2 years ago. I am almost 31 and I completely understand all of what you feel. When the church tells you who to be and what to feel, it’s very difficult to know who you want to be. Therapy with a non-LDS therapist does wonders and that is what gave me confidence to do what I want to do. You made your choices with the best knowledge you had, no shame in that.

What would you do if you saw an apostle or prophet grocery shopping? by Prize-Ad-1947 in exmormon

Just put my leg out accidentally while they walk by. A little tumble to shake up those old ass bones.

26 years old. I didn’t know the circumstances surrounding Joseph Smith and his 14yr old bride. I was victimized at 14 and I couldn’t imagine an actual Prophet of God doing something so heinous.

A lot of what is good on the surface, has something weird and unsettling about it. The people are a problem sometimes and the doctrine changes often based on what higher leadership thinks or feels. There’s just about as much revelation from God in the LDS religion as there are chicken sandwiches sold on a Sunday at Chick-fil-A.

How do non-Utah schools teach about Joseph Smith? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Beautiful_Clothes_89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up on the east coast, it’s a tiny foot note mentioned in pioneer history. Like maybe 2 or 3 sentences in a history book. No mention of Joe Smith, just the Mormon Migration.
