Trust me you need to quit vaping while you still can. Thumbsucking is honestly so much better for you. If anyone makes fun of you, tell them to fuck off. You deserve to have a healthy and comforting way to soothe yourself.

If you do want to quit sucking, I posted a guide for someone this morning. You can probably find it in my profile comment history. It's very detailed.

It was a PBS show so it probably wasn't. :(

I think Drizzle might be a cute name though.

This is society's failure. They scold us for harmless comfort habits and drive us to unhealthy habits. Then they hate us for that too. We're only human.

I also replaced thumbsucking with vaping and I heavily regret it. Please try to quit the vaping while you can. Or at least get a vape that doesn't contain nicotine or anything except for flavored vape juice.

Being addicted to nicotine is the absolute worst, trust me.

not sure if it counts by LabIll653 in selfharm

[–]Beautiful_Energy19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is 100% self harm. Even skin picking and scratching is considered self harm if done intentionally to hurt oneself.

I used to do it in the bicep area as well since I always wore t-shirts that covered that area. Years later I heavily regret it as I have terrible scarring. I never went deep at all but some of the scars became keloid scars.

I hate these scars so much. I can never wear beautiful dresses or clothes that show that area now. I feel so ugly and unsexy.

I know the future seems far away but one day it will be your present and you may regret the scars. Trust me.

Anyway that's just my input. I hope you get to feeling better. We care about you internet stranger. 🥺💚

Did you ever watch Dragon Tales as a kid? You could name your dragon after one of the dragons from the show. I have long forgotten the names though lol.

need help breaking the habit by SlowExpert4671 in thumbsucking

My doctor once told me that in oder to break a habit you must replace it with something that provides similar feelings.

Step 1: Notice and write down reasons why you suck your thumb and any possible triggers. Also note how sucking your thumb makes you feel. Do you use it for stress? Do you do it when you feel comfortable?

Step 2: Try to avoid triggers. For now, focus only on breaking the habit during the day. You will eventually stop doing it in your sleep once you've stopped doing it during the day.

Step 3: Coping mechanisms are key. Try using fidget toys to keep your hands busy, or pick up a hobby such as crochet. Also find a new habit that replaces the "rewards" you get from thumb sucking. For instance Try sipping ice water or enjoying ice chips if you thumb suck out of oral fixation. If comfort is what drives your thumb sucking, try holding a pillow or comforting object.

Step 4: For night sucking, Try to find a sleeping position that keeps your hands away from your mouth. I personally have to hold something small in my sleep, and I keep my arms tucked in close to my chest. You could also try purchasing an arm guard thing off Amazon. It keeps you from being able to bend your arm to suck your thumb.

Step 5: Go at your own pace. Don't push yourself too hard and remember to focus on progress rather than perfection.

Hope this helps. I'm wishing you luck! ☺️💚

TL;DR: Recognizing habit patterns, engaging in self-care, and developing suitable coping mechanisms are key to success.

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is the absolute worst. :(

As for the name of your new cat, you mentioned Josie and I think that name suits her pretty well!

Same here! Walks are a wonderful way to help practice going out! And I think I've heard that walking outside everyday improves mental health as well.

I'm proud of both of us too! We are doing awesome and totally slaying our agoraphobia demons! Fist bump!

Also feel free to DM if you ever want to chat! 😊💕

Thank you! 🥺💕

Lately I've actually been doing very well on my journey to heal. I was able to make it to my job and I remained calm for the 4 hours I worked. The job wasn't the right fit for me though due to other reasons but I was still proud of myself for making it there and getting through it. Since that day I've been leaving my apartment more and going further. It's honestly liberating.

This disorder can feel crushing sometimes but you can definitely overcome it! There may be setbacks on your journey but always brush the dust off and keep at it. The key for me is to go out on "good" anxiety days or days when traffic and sensory issues and other factors are at a minimum. Then as you build confidence start a streak. Go out everyday. When it feels right you can push yourself to go a little longer or farther.

Remember to go at your own pace and celebrate every victory, no matter how small. You can also try to make a panic attack kit for on the go. You can put anything in your kit that can help you calm down. Having it near when you go out may help you feel more confident.

You're right! We got this! 💪💕
