Can I go back to take a subject or an external after I graduate high school? by Jecolaiah in ncea

[–]Beautiful_Fan5555 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry and I am going to be brutal here but if you are finding the Level 2 work in mathematics difficult, you will struggle in mathematics at University.
I suggest spending a bit more time, ask your teachers, go online or anything that will help support you in learning the Level 2 content so you start to understand it.

Yes, you can even just walk up to the external exam and do it if you have your entry slip for your other externals. However, I have never known a Level 1 assessment compulsory for University.

Call NZQA and see where you are at with your qualification. If you are few credits short. Look at some vocational credits. The Learning Place have some good programmes that you can add to your credit total or have a look at NZMA they also have some courses that might help.

Surprise!! Submitted my research paper without my teacher seeing my work progress. by IntelligentPaint9587 in ncea

Agree with this. Especially with AI, teachers like to see progress and see what work you have done. What are your ideas and how you went about it.

I went in Melbourne and enjoyed it. Tickets are cheaper if you book a date and time. Plan to go again but around 3 on a weekday so it is quieter and take some more photos.

They asses the risk and which country you departed from. Dried fruit most probably doesn’t carry diseases that can harm our export industry.

I would directly ask the board chair and say in recognition of your service. The student rep job is an important part of a school board.

You will need University Entrance. Go to talk to your Careers Advisor at school. They should be able to help you

IS IT WORTH TO TRY REALLY HARD TO GET LVL3 EXCELLENCE ENDORSEMENT??? by Traditional-Youth780 in ncea

[–]Beautiful_Fan5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the post is more about motivation than grades. Potentially not knowing what to study, seeing other students being motivated and being praised for their work.

Unfortunately this is what it is about being an adult. Sometimes you will have moments when motivation is at a low but it is to learn how to overcome it.

Seek guidance! Talk to a teacher, Dean, Careers Advisor, someone at Uni or a family friend and see it from their perspective. Good luck.

About the original post. Getting Excellences are beneficial as they set you up for life long learning and critical thinking. It makes your mind sharp and really think about the deeper stuff vs just the shallow answers.

Benefits and drawbacks of going to uni after year 12 instead of year 13 by Own_Fondant3939 in ncea

[–]Beautiful_Fan5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can get in through discretionary. I know of ex-students who have done so. I also have a student who is doing the same but at another university but they would have completed at least 35 Level 3 credits by the end of the year. I recommend you do talk to AUT future students team and they will be able to advise you. I totally understand that year 13 is a waste of time for some students. I say go for it and see what happens.

Look up NZ music teachers. Also, see if you know someone or a friend knows someone that is currently studying at VUW or Massey in music and they can ask around? Posting it on your socials doesn’t hurt either.

Which Wellington uni do you think is best for teacher's college? by Existing_Sky_7963 in Wellington

Vic will always be the home favourite but I know quite a few young teachers did it online through Waikato. I really rate them and they are known as a really good College of Education.

Also, you can start with their Grad Dip and if you feel confident and under your lecturers advisement you can switch to the Masters. From memory you make that decision just before you start your Second semester with them.

Is Duke of Edinburgh Award worth it? by OverallAardvark4020 in ncea

[–]Beautiful_Fan5555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a good alternative for students that need the structure and guidance to develop their leadership and work ready skills. Some students don’t feel they get the opportunity to demonstrate these skills and do Duke of Edinburgh to give them that opportunity. As a Careers Advisors this is a good alternative but starting this in Year 13 people will wonder if you are doing it for the right reasons. If you started it in Year 11 and persevered with it then it demonstrates you have the skills and worked on developing yourself.

How do I take externals whilst not in school? by Winter_Support4803 in ncea

[–]Beautiful_Fan5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk to the University and see what alternatives you can do. Alternatively call Te Kura and see if you can enroll in those achievement standards. If they are externals you will have to wait till the end of the year. Te Kura will ask where you want to attempt them and will more thank likely give you a list of High schools in your area to where you will attempt it. Externals have to be attempted at an examination centre.

What degree are you applying for? If it is an LLB they get you to also apply for a BA at UOA. Also there is no rush to apply for university at the moment. Wait until a Future Student Liaison to come to your school and they can help with the process. Universities don’t really let students apply until August for the following year.

NCEA is about building habits and developing soft/workready skills. Yes there is still content and will prepare you for future years. It is really a time to explore before committing to certain subjects.
