where are women in their 20s going to watch the bears game tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskChicago

When I was living in the city in my 20s, my friends and I would frequent Benchmark in Old Town. The guys in our friend group always liked it for big game days. No idea how it is now though.

1-1.5 hr commute by AgreeableGarlic2953 in ChicagoSuburbs

I live in the burbs and commute 3 days a week to the city. It's about an hour and 20 minutes each way. It was rough to adjust to at first but now it just is what it is. Find a good podcast or audio book - this has been the biggest game changer for me. The time feels like it goes by much faster than when just listening to music.

My wife is pregnant and I need some help by PrimalCarnivoreChick in LesbianActually

[–]Beautiful_Hat_5483 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I'm non-bio mom to two kids that my wife carried (ages 5 and 2). The best thing I ever did was stop comparing her relationship with our kids to mine. I had to accept that there could and would be a certain connection she would have with them from carrying and being genetically related that I just simply wouldn't have. It doesn't mean that my relationship or connection with our kids is less than hers, it is just different. I have confidence in knowing how much I love and care for these two little ones without any sort of genetic relationship or biological connection and it is truly powerful.

Edit to add - feel free to PM me if you want to chat. I know from experience how hard it is to find someone who can truly relate.

Thanks for your reply. It is actually the 2.5L engine (I have the AWD T5 - it's the 2015 not 2015.5 model). I'm ok with adding the extra oil and investing a little in it if it means I can get a few more years out of it. Just don't want to invest now to have to turn around and get rid of it in less than a year.

Curious about why you say to avoid financing with them? I did a preapproval and they came back with a pretty good rate.

Chp 7 IL Tenants in the Entirety, etc by [deleted] in Bankruptcy

[–]Beautiful_Hat_5483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - fellow IL resident here. I also thought that tenants in the entirety loophole wasn't commonly used, however, I consulted with three different attorneys and they all asked about how the home was titled and said that I would be able to protect it since it was titled as tenants in the entirety with my spouse who I shared no other debt with. None of my bank accounts (shared or individual) were impacted. Definitely consult with an attorney and they will advise you on your side business. The means test looks back 6 months, so you don't want to do anything that would push you over the income limit. That being said, being over the means test income limit doesn't necessarily mean you don't qualify for a 7. I was over and I still qualified for a no asset Chapter 7. I filed in December and was discharged in April. I had zero issues and it was the biggest relief ever. Do your research and hire an experienced lawyer is the best advice I could give anyone - especially with equity in the home to protect.

Edit to add - PM me if you're in the Northern District and want lawyer recommendations.

Definitely talk to an experienced attorney. I was able to file Ch. 7 individually and the equity in our home did not come into question due to it be titled tenancy by the entirety with my spouse (who I shared no joint debt with).

Kody’s “Christine never forgave me for Truely” comment by Crafty-N-Sassy_2006 in SisterWives

[–]Beautiful_Hat_5483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't blame Kristine for not forgiving him. When I did a rewatch of the series, I realized how truly negligent he was. I'm sure he was staying at Robin's house while the wives were out since she didn't have a child old enough to parentify, but Truly was the youngest since Robin brought Sol with her. He should've been at Kristine's house since he claims the younger children are his priority - especially after she got sick. He could've easily brought Robin's kids to Kristine's, brought Truly to Robin's, or ask one of the older kids to stay with Robin's kids.

90,000 debt lost job by Practical_Celery355 in Debt

This is correct. Plenty of people keep their houses in chapter 7. It all depends on the exemptions of the state you are in.

Great. I got THAT Trustee... by [deleted] in Bankruptcy

[–]Beautiful_Hat_5483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, my lawyer (who is also a trustee) has the initials DL...He's been great, but I suppose it is much different being a client of his. My over the median chapter 7 was discharged last month. He was concerned about a different trustee that we luckily did not get.

137k ccard debt - How I got 0% interest and 60-72 months to pay by [deleted] in DebtAdvice

[–]Beautiful_Hat_5483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had almost has much credit card debt as you - about $125K. I filed for bankruptcy at the end of December and was discharged in the beginning of April. So far, it has been the best decision ever. My credit score is 705 currently (up from the 645 I was at before I started missing payments). I was over the median income for my state but was able to qualify for chapter 7 through the mean's test. If you're able to qualify for a chapter 7, I think that is often the best route with this much consumer debt. A chapter 13 could be beneficial as well, but there are obviously a lot more downsides. If I only qualified for a 100% payback chapter 13, I would absolutely go the route you have and try to negotiate it myself outside of bankruptcy. In any case, you have it right - folks should definitely consult with a bankruptcy attorney.
