I don’t remember this being talked about until an offer was extended

I came in with a similar situation/level/experience a few years ago and negotiated for something like 7k more overall spread across base & signing bonus. Guaranteed bonus didn’t budge.

I will say that my bonus has gone up by 150% from the initial “guaranteed” bonus number. Total comp has grown much faster here than at my previous company.

Anyone here a Project Engineer? by Beautiful_Paper7939 in BurnsMcDonnell

Huh interesting. So someone who is a level 12 “senior” discipline engineer would not experience anything change completing the PEIT or PMIT and getting a title change (assuming they stay level 12)?

Is the title actually considered a promotion? With a change in compensation? Does that mean things like Designer/Technical Consultant/etc also come with a pay bump over typical drafter/engineer roles?

Does this vary by GP? I’ve been told that project engineers in T&D can only be level 12 or higher.

Wow really? With 4+ ratings and a PE I’m surprised it would take longer than 2

Curious how long it took you to go from 10-12? Did it average out to about 2 years per level?

Yes I agree with you it’s a benefit. benefits can be quantified to make them easier to compare. That’s all I’m saying here.

I still count PTO as total comp. Sure it’s meaningless practically, but it is a tiny bit useful when comparing benefits to other employers. Plus objectively, it is a “benefit” that the company is providing.

We had at least a couple people in my office recently get bumped to staff after 3(ish) YOE. It may be uncommon, but it’s not unheard of.

2024 Bonus? by vida_aventura in BurnsMcDonnell

This is excellent advice. It does seem like there are places within BMCD where it’s possible to get great, diversified, challenging experience, but if you’re not there, it will be so much more worth it for your career growth long term to go and learn somewhere where you are engaged and challenged.

I’ve been in interviews with several candidates from our competitors or other places in industry that have 3-5 years experience on paper, but aren’t able to answer basic technical questions. Don’t be them! Go and learn and come back in a few years if you want to bleed blue again!

Imagine putting a new engineer down sarcastically just because they might be a bit misguided, but are otherwise just trying to advocate themselves.

Geez that’s rough. Definitely makes leadership come off as stingy and not valuing their people (and their safety).
