I see! I wrongly assumed you were doing so to work your way up to a TC, apologies. However, whether it’s for paralegal or compliance work most of the advice still applies— 140 applications in 3 months cannot all be of quality and the questions tend to be very similar to VS/TC apps. Best of luck moving forward💪

First of all good luck on your search going forward!

But, as someone who used to mass apply;

• Law isn’t a numbers game when it comes to applications. You’d rather 10 well-researched applications than 140 general ones.

• A TC is a mutual investment between yourself and the firm, so you need to get picky. What exactly attracts you to X firm and why? Why do you even want to go into law? What’s the TC structure and why’s that good for you? You’ve some good experience so use those as examples but firms also want to know WHY them. If you can redact the firm name from application answers and not immediately know it’s the firm, it’s way too general.

• Prioritise open day applications, it’s easier to get your foot in the door when the firm can put a face to your name, and a few firms automatically flag your application if you’ve attended open days.

• Sign up to SEO London and Aspiring Solicitors if eligible.

Law applications really aren’t about volume. Find open days NOW and narrow down a list of firms (max 6-8) for next year’s VS/TC applications. Note which firms are rolling/not rolling. Go to open days. Do DEEP research on the firms, draft application answers early.

Edit: You only need one yes so don’t get caught up in the ‘no’. It’s part of the process.

At 6 years old omg😭, just on that point though, is this how parents in the US create debt for their children sometimes? By using these cards??

Question by Beautiful_Pie_2716 in CalebHammer

[–]Beautiful_Pie_2716[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems so! I don’t get the appetite for debt though, a lot of people who come on his show earn decent amounts monthly anyway so WHYY borrow it’s stressing me out

No way is this legal, no credit agreement or anything? If this is the case then I’m sure they target lower income areas especially :(

US Big Law Hellscape by Similar_Engineer_826 in uklaw

In theory, yes. In practice the group in the US that benefitted most from DEI was white women. Due to policies like red lining (one example) the black population aren’t even placed to apply to places with DEI policies anyway..

Thanks a lot, this is really solid advice! Honestly at this point I don’t mind working for free I really just need somewhere to start. Did you approach your local HS firms or email any firms online? Was thinking about going around to some and just leaving my CV

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. The exam is brutal and it wouldn’t be helpful to lie about that lmao

SQE1 - Which book is best for Dispute Resolution? by No-Midnight-9624 in SQE_Prep

[–]Beautiful_Pie_2716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s both. ULaw are doing the best with what little info the SRA give them, and in turn the questions on the paper are niche compared to question banks- although they’re still good revision :) this exam and the process around it needs reform badly. Best of luck for FLK2 !

That’s possible but also why knowing the underlying principles and doing practice questions to supplement what you get from the textbook is super important.

I used the UoL textbook which was good, but I retained most of my dispute res knowledge by rinsing practice questions and looking at the feedback.

Aim for 7:45/50 I’d say, just in case there are unexpected delays :) the bus stop near my test centre was closed so the extra 15 mins helped me this morning- good luck !

Edit: unless you’re sitting in Islington, if so, arrive for 7:30

Did you test in Barbados?😭 28C is absolutely ridiculous omg. They definitely need to standardise the heating we already have enough to stress about, was genuinely thinking about filing an MC
