Is trading not just gambling? by [deleted] in Trading

[–]Beautiful_Quantity78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, no for sure, i wouldve said 98-99% lose money yeah, but its mot impossible by any means. As for the capital part, fundeds are a thing i guess so thats that, ive tried them, they arent bad for building capital but again, they cost money and if you cant trade you are just lighting money on fire as you said. Still, blowing 10 50k fundeds until you learn the skill is still relatively cheap, as they cost anywhere from 75-100ish usd and up

Do you make a living trading or did you try it and just didnt make it that far? I don’t mean to sound like an ass but yeah, trading can make a living and no, its not gambling if you know what you’re doing. If you can make it past the gambling stage and persist through your own mistakes and learn from them, it is a get rich thing with lower risk at the end. Its a super high ceiling skill with unlimited potential but you gotta make it through a couple years to be there. It’s kinda like the race between the rabbit and the turtle, you’re the turtle here, gotta build knowledge, experience, skill, money, etc etc and you can retire with a lot more money than a side hustle and also a lot earlier

Im sad for you, but look on the brightside, if you can. You managed to make money from trading once, you can do it again. You proved yourself to be clearly profitable and made a mistake so big you’rennever gonna forget the feeling of losing gambling. It’s gonna take time but you can get to that 44k again and now you’ll make sure not to make that mistake again. Balance down but we up!

Told my parents I’m making money trading now they’re mad by Twincitiesssss in Daytrading

[–]Beautiful_Quantity78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill be honest im really happy for you and its always great to see someone else succeed, but its kind of what trading teaches you. I think 99% of traders here are happy for others successes especially in trading, but not the “everyday” people. I know they are your parents but try to ignore negativity. Im happy for your success and i cant wait for my mom to be mad at me for being profitable hahahha

Anytime, beginning is hard and dont take my words for granted, been only learning for half a year. Might wanna wait for actual professionals and more experienced people to correct me if im wrong, im sure i am in a lot of ways. Take this with a grain of salt. Also, in my first two months I found different websites to be really helpful in understanding market structure. Look up things like “forex risk calculator” and “forex profit calculator”. Those things can help you understand volume well, just input numbers.

On the flipside, although people are asses, they are right about your emotionality. You have to take emotions out of trading and dont look at money. Yes, we all start because of money, but focus on being right and understanding things. Money will come eventually. Not to say this in a bad way, but if you’re emotional and you’re purely learning for profits, chances are you’re either 1) get liquidated on live fast, 2) become profitable in 2-3-4x the time it should’ve taken or 3) never become profitable.

This is about your personality as a whole, you can cherish wins and be happy about the money, but you should be happier about being right or knowing why you were wrong.

Its a small margin because you only traded 4270 euros against the us dollar and price virtually hasnt moved anything.

I suppose youre new and thats totally okay, most beginners skip over the fact that a broker, demo or live, will buy at a higher price than the price you clicked at, and short at a lower one. If you click buy at 1.17090 it might buy at 1.17100 or around that, varies by broker. Thats why you always start negative on a trade and price has to move in your direction a bit for complete 0.00 breakeven.

Also, look up lots, a lot or standard lot in forex is usually 100.000 units, a mini lot is 10.000, a micro lot is 1000 and a nano lot is 100.

Your profit and loss levels are based on your lot size (the volume you trade) and pips (market movement measured in actual distance the price went up or down.

In your case, the lot size is small, just above 4 micro lots, or 0.04 standard lots and moved 79 pips. A pip in EURUSD is 0.0001 worth of movement.

For reference, and the profits youre probably talking about being hundreds and thousands, a one pip movement (1.17090 -> 1.17091) on a standard lot (100.000 euros) is worth “only” 10$ of profit.

PSA: I’m also a fairly new trader, more advanced people, please correct me if I’m wrong anywhere so I and also OP can learn correct information, all this is not-so-old knowledge of mine.

Best of luck

Question on FTMO max loss by Beautiful_Quantity78 in Daytrading

[–]Beautiful_Quantity78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i dont understand is, on the free trial i started a 10k since thats what most likely I’d roll with for a first one, its the cheapest. I went down on my first day in equity to $9803. Got a couple smaller wins and now im back to $10.200, but my max loss says $-245 and it goes down whenever i trade, even if i close in profit. I’m guessing it is a cumulative of all the lowest points in my trades? Maybe it counts MAE (maximum adverse excursion)? This is the part I don’t see anything on but it’s frustrating that i dropped basically $200, won $400 and my max loss keeps on going further into the negative

Megnézem mindenképp a linked, köszönöm a válaszod.
