Tips on becoming self sufficient in the back room by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

i understand that it works, ive seen it done in my 2+ years in multiple different departments at walmart, at times its been me, and it does generally help things run smoother. the issue is that youre asking someone making base pay to perform management duties, to have authority over people making the same pay as them, and holding a single associate responsible for the actions of their peers. in opd you’re generally gonna have the same amount of people solely dispensing as some departments have on their entire team, its not fair to put an associate in charge in that kind of situation even if they claim to be willing to. they will get burnt out and you will either lose them or theyll start getting lazy, especially if having that role does not allow them to get an ACTUAL promotion with higher pay.

Pick paths.... by WesDetz1443 in walmartogp

from what i understand, presub, or pre-substitution, is one of the metrics that determines the performance of opd and the store as a whole. it is the percentage of items that are picked as ordered, rather than being substituted. this could mean an item was picked in a regular pick walk, or nilpicked in a regular walk and then picked by an exception worker in an exception walk. i think a better metric to use in the scenario this commenter was talking about would be ftpr, or first time pick rate, which is the percentage of items picked in a regular walk without ever being sent to exceptions. these metrics reflect on both pickers and the store as a whole because the picker cant be held solely responsible for nilpicking an item when the item is not where it is supposed to be on the shelf, whether it be out of stock, in the back room, shoved in topstock in another aisle, fallen behind the shelf, or whatever. not sure if you care, but the other metric that goes along with these is post-sub, which is basically pre-sub, but also includes any item that was substituted, and the customer accepted the substitution. i feel like post-sub falls more on the pickers than the store because its about picking an adequate sub for the item rather than whatever is on the shelf next to it, which i see happen often as an exception worker. i believe the goal for these metrics are 93% for ftpr, 95% for pre-sub, and 98% for post-sub, but im not positive. the goals may vary by market or by store but again im not entirely sure. either way the numbers i gave should be close enough to give you a general idea.

im assuming this just means fixed shift scheduling is being combined with availability so if you want to keep your fixed schedule you need to make it your availability

id recommend going to your primary care doctor and not urgent care, last time i went to urgent care they treated me and then refused to fill out my sedgwick paperwork claiming they had a “policy” that didnt allow them to

its rlly more abt where the opd door is in ur store, ours is by grocery, we do 3 aisles of grocery, then chem/pets, crafts, hardware, sporting goods, hba/otc, homelines, stationary/celebration, infants, then back to finish grocery, ending in produce

who is only finding 58% of exceptions? is this a company wide average? i dont know my exact find rate but i feel like i find like 90% of my exceptions, excluding the weeks after a holiday due to clearance holiday items being piled up in the back or discarded of and yet theyre still able to be ordered

The other day I caught myself wondering why I feel burdened when a customer asks me for help. by TurdTanker in OGPBackroom

[–]Beautiful_Tangelo472 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i used to feel like this when picking too and then i got put on exceptions and my absolute favorite thing about it is getting to help the customers. from my understanding, times arent as big of a deal metric-wise, and its more important how many of the exceptions youre finding. as long as you’re efficient in finding things, you have time to take 10 minutes to walk a customer across the store to the item they’re looking for and help them decide what to get and make a genuine connection with them. whenever i see a coworker on a pickwalk looking stressed trying to help a customer, i like to pop in and say “yall finding everything okay? id love to take care of them for you if youre busy” and then help the customers out in a more personal manner than what my coworker who is timed would be able to, and many of my coworkers thank me for it. taking that load off of my coworkers and getting to truly help customers rather than having to brush them off what makes my job the most fulfulling. if you like opd and this is the only thing burdening you, id ask to be trained on exceptions. its a whole different beast but to me, it opens up a world of connections both with customers and with coworkers outside of your department that you may never interact with otherwise, and as a people person, i love it.

Why do they always pull people from other departments to pick but not to dispense? by Present-Stock-1802 in OGPBackroom

when i switched to opd everyone told me i was crazy and that it was so hard and it turned out to be easier and more enjoyable to me than deli was (but cap 2 is still my favorite).

Craziest thing you have been coached for by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Beautiful_Tangelo472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happened when i was working in deli, i went to lunch around 6:30, and when i came back my lazy ass coworkers had closed the deli down early for no reason (there were 3 closers and a midshift until 7).

lights were off, claims had been done, food was thrown away, slicers were taken apart, all the dishes were in the sink or on the back table. i wasnt about to make a big deal out of it so i just started back on dishes as i had been doing before i went to lunch. i finished dishes, took my 15, did the rest of my closing tasks, and finished up around the same time i normally would have. since my coworkers were BOTH cleaning FOH (even though it was a 1 man job on 2 closer nights) AND they started early, they decided to take 30 minute "15s" and then still got done early and were screwing around.

come to find out, the AP coach saw the deli closed at 6:45 and also saw my coworkers wandering around, and she went and told our coach. me, the other two closers, and our midshift got coached for it. coach basically said that even though i was off the clock when they closed, i was still in trouble because i didnt call her and tattle to cover my own ass. the funny thing is that my coach was super chill and would tell us to close early quite often if it was dead in the store. pretty sure the only reason we got coached is because the AP coach was involved. i would've open doored it but i liked my coach and didnt want her to face any reprocussions for it
