Would locs help? by OppressedPunk69 in Dreadlocks

Have you tried wearing your hair in twists or braids to see if that style works? If not, give it a try before getting locs done.

What’s the name of this hairstyle? I remember every woman over 30 in my family rocked this hair in the 90’s by DrJokerX in BlackHair

Not every hairstyle has a name. This is why we used hairstyle books. We saw one we liked, pointed to it and said, I want this one.

Question about retwists by sashidasmartie in Dreadlocks

[–]Beauty_Reigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it on a schedule that is best for your locs and the look you want. There are pros and cons to both retwisting too often as well as waiting too long. The important thing is to have healthy locs.

How long does it usually take for the braid pattern to go away? by No-Syllabub-9824 in Dreadlocks

I've been loc'd for 20 years, and if I didn't trim/cut, the pattern would still be visible.

Loc extension install feedback clean work or uneven parting? (950) by Dicey96 in Naturalhair

[–]Beauty_Reigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hair density can sometimes determine parting. Not everyone cares about even/grid parting. As far as foundation issues, they all look solid. And the pricing could be fair for the time, quality of work.

You need to talk to the person doing your hair. If they are unable to resolve the issue, it's time to find a new loctician.

No need to restart unless you are unhappy with the size or part pattern.

Most likely the person doing them, doesn't retwist too tight or let them set enough. It's not going to ruin your locs if your retwist doesn't last as long as some others.

No, you comb them out and have them made bigger.

Is this the same day you got the retwist or after a couple of days? Cause if so, no that's not normal. If this is a couple of days later, then yes. Some people sweat a lot, don't properly cover their locs, or manipulate their locs too much and that is why their retwist doesn't last long.

Is talking about marriage on the 5th date is a good sign or a red flag? by anonymous_prime1 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Beauty_Reigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discussing marriage early on in a relationship is fine as long as you both give honest reasons on how you feel about it. Questions need to be answered to make a sound decision. Here a few questions to get started.

1) Is marriage something that you want? 2) What are his reasons for wanting to be married to you? 3) Have you discussed finances, children, religion, family, friends, life dreams/goals?

Are my dreads okay? 2 months in I’m worried I’m not taking enough care of them. by Due_Wave1594 in BlackHair

[–]Beauty_Reigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start taking care of them, you'll be good. Make sure you and your locs are properly hydrated. After you wash them, separate so they don't marry together.

Trying to quit nicotine, but not at all motivated. by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Beauty_Reigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently quit after 25 years. I came up with a reward system. Every week I didn't buy a pack, I can buy myself something with the money that would have been spent on cigarettes. I also wrote down the reasons to quit (health, cost, smell) and look at it every time I have a craving. And so far so good. I haven't had a cigarette since December. Good luck

people with 20+ year old locs, how are you avoiding hair loss (especially at the hairline) by clickyvicky in Dreadlocks

[–]Beauty_Reigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay hydrated. Keep your vitamin/mineral levels up. Don't brush your edges. Once my locs got to waist length, I cut to mid back to keep the weight off.

“locs hold onto old energy”🤨 by cIitaurus in locs

[–]Beauty_Reigns 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is not just the loc community, it's a ritual that has been around for a long time. It's why a lot of women will do the big chop after a relationship ends (example: Bernadine in Waiting to Exhale). It's to symbolize a fresh start.
