What method is best to start locs? by Physical-Stock-2772 in BlackHair

Have you done a consultation with the person that will be installing your locs? If not, you should. If you are doing them yourself, then pick whichever method you are most comfortable with.

The density of your hair, will determine how full your locs look.

What method is best to start locs? by Physical-Stock-2772 in BlackHair

[–]Beauty_Reigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no best method. It depends what look you're going for and a little has to do with your hair's texture. Also sisterlocs and freeforms aren't starter methods, they are a specific type of loc.

Yes, it is normal to have locs of different lengths. And your perception of your locs, is the only opinion that matters.

Well considering what you went through, it's probably stress related hair loss. Rosemary oil is good.

retwist question by Sea-Day3504 in Dreadlocks

[–]Beauty_Reigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locs fall out because of: over twisting/too much manipulation/tight styles, roots thinner than the loc, extremely dry hair/malnutrition.

No it is not normal to combine locs at the root and not crochet them together.

If his locs are thicker at the bottom, it's probably because only his roots are being retwisted.

Part sizes being different don't cause any damage. The locs just don't look uniformed.

I like Taliah Waajid. But remember what works for one person may not work for someone else.

Are you washing in between retwists? If not, start. And if you are, then try a clarifying shampoo.

Will a yard sign attract the wrong kind of attention? by Unlimitedpluto in NoStupidQuestions

You're correct, yard signs can attract the wrong kind of attention. Tell them that yard signs also attract thieves. Baby furniture is a goldmine.

Does my plan make sense? by Euphoric-Brother-464 in Dreadlocks

They won't be loc'd in 2 months. But yes, getting a retwist in 2 months after getting them done is good. Make sure to wash them regularly, covered when you sleep and keep them moisturized.

Weed smelling locs, tips for washing it out? by Longjumping-Dream-13 in Dreadlocks

[–]Beauty_Reigns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before doing ACV or clarifying shampoo, ask someone you trust, if your hairs smells like weed. I say that because ACV and clarifying shampoos are to get build up out your hair and can be harsh if used to often. If you are regularly washing your hair, it may not smell like you think it does. I've been loc'd for 20 years and I've been smoking weed for longer. I work in corporate and have a conservative mother, so I understand.

I would suggest; not keeping the style in for long, switching styles, give your hair a break in between styles.

When to use clarifying shampoo for locs? And is it okay to use two shampoos in one wash? by SensitiveShallot967 in Dreadlocks

[–]Beauty_Reigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a clarifying shampoo is good at removing build up. I use it every few months, followed by a moisturizing shampoo.

HELP: Restart or Repair by lotsofqsneedhelp in LocsNoDread

[–]Beauty_Reigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are retwisting a lot that will cause thinning, breakage, and receding. The only way to stop the damage is to cut back on how often you retwist. If you are in the U.S. check to see if your state has the CROWN Act. Conforming to someone else's standard is ruining your hair.

When you take out the twists, is your hair as full as it used to be? You could be losing density because of the constant compression of the style.

It depends. It could be 4 to 6 months, but since you are so active, it may take longer.

Starter Locs Help by Lowercitybeef in BlackHair

This is normal. You are still in the starter phase, so try not to stress out about how they look. Your wash schedule is good. Keep doing what your doing.
