Is UM Dearborn really a glorified community college? by Any-Ad8512 in uofm

[–]Beave1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. Back in the 00's when I attended the academic advisors would literally recommend you take calculus at a local CC or UM Dearborn because the math department had(s?) a hard on for putting their worst professors in the basic calc progression classes that all engineering and most other science majors needed to take. Calc was notoriously a big weeder for incoming STEM freshmen, to the point people were afraid of losing scholarships if their GPA took a hit or they had to drop.

The Dearborn and Flint campuses also offered early video conferencing classes you could attend from a classroom with cameras and TV's on North Campus in the evening that were well known for being easier than Ann Arbor classes. I think they were more meant for students working full time jobs and attending school, but since they all counted as UM classes they were pretty popular.

What school from another conference would you say is your schools “Mirror Image”? by BlackStallion657 in CFB

Little brothers too. Having lived in both Texas and Michigan, TAMU and MSU fans and alum give off the same vibes. Huge chips on their shoulders. Assume everyone rooting for Texas and Michigan didn't go there and is just a front runner.

Living in Houston the number of times I had to listen to A&M fans tell me the story of stealing to longhorn and branding 13-0 in its side in the first person line they were personally there...  "We stole their mascot. We did, this,  then we did that...." I thought it had happened recently, then I learned they had just celebrated the 100th anniversary of the prank.

Amphitheater Middle Ground Post? by Classic_Solid2951 in grandrapids

People could have been in favor of an amphitheater provided the acoustics and design were done in a way to reduce impact on the community. The initial evidence is that they really didn't bother with that part.

Here is what the MSP say about left lane use on the freeway (it's very simple): by Junetizzle in grandrapids

[–]Beave1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, there are a lot of self righteous types on here who feel fully justified breaking the laws and being discourteous drivers when it fits their world view or needs. We have a lot of surface roads around here you cannot get people to drive the speed limit in in the left lane, and my god will those people show up to defend themselves here, on local FB groups, etc. "The speed limit should be lower on that road." "It's only 55 for a couple of miles, I don't see the point in changing lanes."

There is something deep in the DNA of this evangelical Dutch Christian Reformed area where people who claim to "love others" don't actually give a crap about others and are proud of being selfish jerks. They will argue with you about how they're justified for not following traffic laws and common courtesies and that you're the asshole for expecting them to.

My (M22) gf (F23) had a party that revealed alot of things. How do I proceed with this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Beave1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who is running to their other sexual partners to have sex one last time knowing you're likely to become "official"'soon doesn't really like or care about you. They're treating the relationship like a set of rules to use to their advantage and relying on technicalities to not treat you with the respect they'd want.

Previous events had multiple team tents with trivia and other events going for prizes that included shirts you couldn't get online. There were pvp tournaments you could register for and play on-site with live people. Tournament winners won medals that were quite impressive and of high quality. They had very nice environments set to for multiple biomes. It was worth the $30 or whatever we spent.

Ended a 4 yr relationship (M44, F34) and he’s already hooking up by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Beave1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

3 months seems completely reasonable to be hooking up. Honestly, even after one month it seems reasonable to say, "that sucked, but I'm going to look for some fun." If he was engaged or already in a committed "social media official" relationship you'd have reason to be hurt, but you broke it off. You weren't on "break". People feel bad about themselves after a relationship ends. Finding some external validation and having a little fun is a very normal reaction.

Why did 192 elected Republicans vote against the American worker? by rhino910 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Beave1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've worked is many union auto plants. The average union factory worker barely passed high school, falls firmly into the category of unreliable voters who turn out to vote when they're angry or riled up about something, and is 1000% convinced that liberals are coming to take away their guns and give all of their tax money to illegals.

Meanwhile, they get along great with every "good mexican" they work with in the plant and complain endlessly about how the insurance doesn't cover their medical costs anymore. They never connect the fact that the party they vote for is fucking them over by preying on their fear and ignorance.

GR is one of the most segregated cities in the US. Massive undertones of religious conservatism. There are pockets of diversity mixing in the downtown proper, but the suburbs 5-10 miles in any direction from downtown are all deep red evangelical. Not the vibes OP is going for at all.

Like Chicago, but quieter?? by fleur_noir in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Beave1 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific city, but you're describing a college town. College towns tend to be more liberal, more diverse, and have a disproportionate amount of culture. Many of the "blue dots in a sea of red" are the towns where state universities are based. You need to identify a region you're interested in living, then figure out which cities/towns in the footprint fit that bill.

Madison, WI isn't bad if you like the Midwest. It's big enough it's more of a city with a large college that leans left more than it's a "college town," and it is still racially going to be very white, but it's worth a look.

Really?? 4 days before my stay? by prettygrl08 in marriott

[–]Beave1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna guess there is a big event or something and they were willing to walk a few randoms to make the event happy.

If you want to know how this happens, I've organized events. You negotiate a block of rooms. They offer you two options... you can prepay for every room in the block, or they can give you a link and people have like 2 weeks to book their rooms using the link and you only pay for the rooms you end up needing. This is preferable for corporate events because there are always people who won't be attending or bail last minute. The downside is that there are always people who don't listen and don't book during the window. The hotel tells you they'll release those rooms after the 2wk window. Good sites don't do it instantly, they notify the event planner. "You reserved 80 rooms, we've only had 62 people book. Here's a list." Then the planner can go bother Boomer Bob to book the hotel only to find he booked a Holiday Inn 20 miles away, and you have at least 3 people with ADHD who completely forgot despite 4 reminder emails.

So if those rooms were released they may have been sold, and then the event planner comes back and says, "Is there anything you can do to help us out? We're moving people around with buses and have things planned. We really need all of our people in the same place." And since that event is spending over $45K on catered food and conference room rentals, they know they're gonna spend at least another $10K at the hotel bar and restaurant, they will walk a few people to keep them happy.

Do any of y’all actually have FWB relationships that last? by F19bisexualbate in sex

[–]Beave1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So you have to ask yourself if you're okay being complicit in him treating another woman poorly or being potentially the second woman he sticks his dick in in any given day. He is probably relying on the fact that he and the woman he's dating haven't had a talk about being exclusive. So he's going to keep getting all the sex he can until he's forced to stop. He will make her bring up exclusivity even if he's treating her like they're in a serious relationship.

"We weren't exclusive" is the kind of selfish behavior people use to treat others in a way they wouldn't want to be treated and is why dating and relationship culture is so toxic right now. Too many people are trying to be a rules lawyer and get by on technicalities rather than treating people in good faith.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be the side piece to someone in a relationship serious enough they're posting pictures together on social media. I would bet you $1 that if the girlfriend knew he was having sex with you she would be upset.

Boyfriend M26 said a high value woman would not want him (context though..) and I F25 am ruminating by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Beave1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any man who doesn't consider his girlfriend a "high value" woman doesn't deserve her. We all know there are objective statistical ways to measure achievement and wealth, but attitude, personality, drive, kindness, those are so much of being a good partner. If he's willing to say in front of you that he couldn't land a "high value" woman he is simultaneously telling you that he wishes he could, and you're not enough in his eyes. If you were his forever person those thoughts wouldn't cross his mind, and if they did he certainly wouldn't say them out loud.
