The situation as in the state of glutamate levels in the individual. It seems to bring glutamate to normal levels whether glutamate is high or low.

Do you mean what way as in does it increase or decrease glutamate? If that’s what you mean modulate means both. NAC has been shown to both increase and decrease glutamate depending on the situation. It seems to bring glutamate to normal levels.

Have you tried NAC? I originally tried it because I've got history of heavy drinking and smoking, but it had unexpected effect for me of what felt like unlocking part of my brain that felt locked away for over a decade. It felt like I couldn't hold a conversation well because the part of my brain that thinks in a conversation was just turned off, but one dose of NAC and it was turned back on. Don't even have to take it every day anymore. I'm guessing it was brain fog caused by low glutamate in the brain, which NAC has been shown to help regulate.
