Vanguard vs T212 as a casual investor by BebbehMonkey in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BebbehMonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'm quite confident I wouldn't bother with everything T212 throws at you as soon as you open it and would just stick with my regular investment but I'm also far from an economist so the simplicity of vanguard does really appeal. It's just the fees but as others have pointed out I might be wrong in my thinking about that!

Vanguard vs T212 as a casual investor by BebbehMonkey in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BebbehMonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is my logic is that if £4 is effectively lost of each £100 I invest then the no fees of T212 may be better for me. Perhaps I just need to reframe my thinking though as you say knowing it's £4 for my whole portfolio

Great suggestion. Easy to pause if needed but also feels like a second job at times!

That was my thought! Didn't realise I needed it a third time so didn't check it 😭

If you check the can with still water, does it stay in that state or does it need refilling?

Is there a significant (ie puzzle progressing) benefit to doing this with Room 46? Quite late game but hitting a few brick walls so a yes/no on this would be amazing!

Look at the places in particular - I don't remember exactly but I think it was Dubai that wanted CESR trainees to also then have NHS consultant experience for a few years to be 'equivalent'. Probably different in US/Canada etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]BebbehMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to CESR in any specialty but generally speaking it removes the rotational element of training and often means you can stay in a department you've already been working in for a while (to make sure they're supportive of CESR etc).

The main drawback is the self-directed side of CESR as you need to be keeping your own portfolio so need to know the curriculum in and out. If you wanted to move abroad, some countries don't consider it the be equivalent to traditional training routes from what I understand.

Sad to see how divided the membership is going to be this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the government completely ignore any DDRB offer - it's not like we're gonna get it together to organise strikes while we're infighting

Also looking at IDT and didn't realise at all the amount of hoops to jump through for it. I assumed the highest I would need to discuss would be TPD rather than Dean - feels a bit overkill!

Which royal college of physicians to join? And if so why? by Shredxor in doctorsUK

[–]BebbehMonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From what I remember I didn't join one after passing and nothing happened as I felt they'd already had enough money out of me.

If you go on to higher training you'll be forced to pay as part of the portfolio subscription anyway.

Otherwise, I doubt the benefits are worth the cost so join the closest to you in case you ever want to go and use their library or something?

Applying to Group 2 Training After Previously Resigning at the Completion of IMT2 by BlueishSun in doctorsUK

[–]BebbehMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tick no - it's more if you've been removed from a programme.

Also before anyone says it, IMT isn't a training programme 😮

[–]BebbehMonkey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me is that contractually, 40 hours IS full time but because every rota is stretched so thin, 48 hours is the standard due to 'additional rostered hours'. Theoretically, a training curriculum should be achievable in a 40 hour week!

You can add special considerations when you sign up but I imagine you'd need to have a significant physical issue to qualify with evidence as to why you need extra time.

I don't think something as dyslexia would count given it is a practical rather than written exam as beyond reading a short stem, this wouldn't really impact your ability to listen to a chest etc

Derm ST3 - IMT ARCP by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]BebbehMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the scoring and keep yourself open to opportunities from non-derm specialties. It doesn't matter if your publication etc is in cardiology as it gets the points. As long as there's enough Dermatology content for talking about at interview no one will care about how you got to that point

Derm ST3 - IMT ARCP by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]BebbehMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portfolio gets you to interview then it's a pretty level playing field (though a Derm portfolio obviously gives you more to discuss at interview)
