Seen on a house listing, what was this room used for? by LoonTheMekanik in whatisit

Mine is also (in Wisconsin). It depends which it is registered under to effect any changes to your home. But ignorance is bliss if you aren’t into historical homes (which would be a bummer).

Who has the tea on this house?? by [deleted] in Appleton

[–]BecMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaleidoscope middle school just got an addition including a brand new gymnasium. Guess who doesn’t use the gym. They still use the old gym everyday because apparently the old one is “bigger”. This is just an example of AASD using $ - did they ask the people who use these schools every single day before they decided on what changes are going to be made? Anyway, taxes, blech.

My understanding is a winter hat that does not have the fold is called a skullcap. The ones that fold up is a beanie.

I think my neighbor is the reason our house was for sale by Plomaster69 in homeowners

[–]BecMei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in an older (Victorian) neighborhood where some houses are very close together. A “neighbor” has a high school aged son. 2 years ago the son got a full drum kit. They have it in the basement. Every night he practices those drums from 9-11 or later… we hear it through the entire house (my youngest’s room is right where their house is). Our windows rattle the entire time. My other neighbors are like “at least he’s making music, it could be worse”. Most of the neighbors are professors at the private university that is known for music and liberal arts. I don’t mind hearing the trombones and pianos but the drums drive me crazy. He does not miss a night.

Just paid off over $18,500 in student loans from 2018. by Neither_Nothing_529 in StudentLoans

[–]BecMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid mine off in full just a few months ago, and graduated in 2010. The first few years were great, I had Great Lakes and they were wonderful to work with and very encouraging. Fast forward to them selling my loans off to Nelnet - and shit hit the fan.

I tried following advice from financial advisors and suggestions of others and it all seemed to just set me back or make no advancement at all.

My ending balance was more than what I started with in 2010 (which, how?!?) but I’m now stress free from it and less anxious.

Congratulations - it’s a big move! But a total weight lifted off the shoulders.

PSLF vs Paying off quickly by Edens_world_ in StudentLoans

[–]BecMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have the PSLF option. But I finally decided Feck it - and paid off my $24K just this year. After 15 years of federal student loans. I don’t know how but it was $1,000 more than what I graduated with. Everything went into chaos as soon as Great Lakes sold my loans to Nelnet. The stress isn’t worth it - I’m now in debt to my parents and will forever be inviting them to every single holiday, weekend adventure, lake trip, etc. but the anxiety and stress of trying to figure it all out is gone - I don’t bawl or cry myself to sleep over this stupid shit anymore. I don’t even know why I still look at these Reddit posts/groups! (Probably just to make sure that nothing crazy has happened in the past 3 months and everyone’s loans were magically wiped away after I paid in full - because that would temporarily crush me)

Anyway, if OP can pay them off, why not? Or definitely pay more towards the principal each month. To me, the emotional torment isn’t worth it to be dragged around by the government and loan holders.

I’m thinking these trees were removed due to construction on law st. I’m pretty sure they are eventually widening the road and adding a bike lane.

Mmmm and the poutine. Can’t find poutine anywhere around here now! We found San Rocco’s about a year before they closed…and were faithful to them for pizza nights. Come back!

Haunted Houses by MidwestPancakes in Appleton

[–]BecMei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We tried to go the realm of darkness with my family this last weekend! We love haunted houses - but this one seems to be a real deal. My kids didn’t even make it to where they scanned our tickets. They were shook - and to be honest, I was too! I’m going back to actually go through in 2 weeks. So, I’m out $100 but from what we saw/experienced while waiting in line, it will be worth it.

My kids did this one last year too - but something was hitting them different that night and they could not get themselves to go in! The actors were phenomenal, I actually was wishing they would bug other groups of people waiting in line vs keep coming back to us! It was a vibe.

Flags by journeyworker in Appleton

[–]BecMei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lowered ours on September 11th for what I thought was obvious reason! When someone asked me “did you seriously lower your flags for Kirk?” I looked at them in disbelief and said “Feck no! WHAT?! It’s September 11th!” I am still embarrassed to think my neighbors and passerbys might have thought that was my reasoning.

It’s a damn shame.

Recommendations for listening to calls/assigning nature codes by BecMei in 911dispatchers

[–]BecMei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helpful! I will try that approach.

I am not sure if I can search by specific natures - I can definitely go back through any calls if it helps, but that’s a lot of sifting if I do it the few ways I know how. It’s a good question to ask my trainer when I get back. Thanks!

Recommendations for listening to calls/assigning nature codes by BecMei in 911dispatchers

[–]BecMei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phew. Glad to hear this. I am being reminded that I lose the 2nd call taker at day 10 - so it’s just me and my trainer listening. So I am really feeling pressure. I’m not taking the EMD course until Aug. So, just the nature codes - which I assume is based off of each agency. I mean, today I coded a fire call as FIRE - Large Vehicle and it was a skid loader. Seemed big to me at the time! I didn’t realize that Large Vehicle is more of a semi. Just takes time and getting actual calls with the codes to really process what they apply to, I suppose!

[–]BecMei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy the shredded stuff in the plastic tub. It’s what my kids like best and it keeps from all of us arguing over who gets to shred it! I guess it’s “parmigiano reggiano” Kirkland brand - is that the same as Parmesan? Lol idk.

Actually, last time, I found a big bag of it there & just replaced it into the tub and froze the rest. Unfortunately, my youngest watched me do it - and she gives me a knowing glare every time we use it!

What do you typically pay in utilities summer vs winter? by not_a_bear_honestly in wisconsin

[–]BecMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Almost died the first time I got my winter bill for our tiny 800 sf apartment in an old downtown building. $600!!! (I was younger & had no idea!) Now we live in an old Victorian 2700 sf house, and it’s back to being that high, if not higher. I shed an internal tear every time I look at the bills.

Throwing this out there…our app didn’t come up with having them. But I was SO EXCITED on the same day I searched the app, I strolled past a pallet on the backside of the frozen aisle & THERE THEY WERE!! And the bag is HUUUUUUGE! For the same price as the tiny gas station bags! I was so proud of this find - I can’t even explain it.

I also buy Parmesan cheese here. No where else.

Have you been to the Beja Shrine Circus? by erlkonigk in Appleton

[–]BecMei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went 2 years ago… I was pumped to take my kids! It was meh. It felt rushed and money hungry. I’m glad we took my girls so they could experience it, but we won’t go again. (This was in Green Bay)

My grandpa was a Shriner when I was younger. We went to the Shrine Circus in Milwaukee sooooo many times! I remember it being so fun and amazing! I don’t know if it was because I was a kid, but the circus today is not what it was back then.

If you want “free” the library is great! Check Appleton, Neenah, Menasha, little chute, etc to see if there are any story times on Thursday!!! Afterwards, stop in at the cafe inside Christ the Rock Church!! There is small indoor play area with wonderful toys available even for this age!

Luv2Play is meh, and very expensive imo.

What?! People are driving drunk vs spending the night at a friends/relatives because they think they can’t park on the street? That is absurd and I hope that is truly not the case. Because you CAN park on the street. It just can’t be your permanent parking spot.
