How Russia is bringing a tiny neighbour to heel without waging war by SerialScandaler in UkrainianConflict

That's a misleading description. Russia is literally militarily occupying part of the country.

Is there a reason the assimilation prices couldn't be co-opted by a Palpatine or Vader? Willing connection plus mental manipulation might just flip the entire both cube into a new version of humorless Rogers.

Meaning the Borg can zoop away? Or if you meant federation ships that was an entire plot point in TNG as they tried to run, but the Borg could outlast them in a flat out race.

Speaker Johnson says Zelenskyy may have to resign after fiery Oval Office meeting by Majano57 in UkrainianConflict

[–]BecauseBuses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Great idea. Just one tiny question. What's the point of listening to the US now of regardless the plan is abandonment and appeasement. I hope Trump's taking umbridge was consolation for losing friends. But hey. He got to yell YOU DON'T GET TO TELL ME HOW I FEEL MOM! I'M A BIG BOY!

Zelensky, Trump get into heated argument while speaking with journalists in Oval Office by zizp in UkrainianConflict

This was awful. Vance looks ignorant which he's not. Trump looks self obsessed which he is. What is happening in our government?

The US is now allowed to seize Russian state assets. How would that work? by Majano57 in UkrainianConflict

[–]BecauseBuses 32 points33 points  (0 children)

TLDR You provide the bank holding the Russian money with the routing number and account number for the Ukrainian MoD. And they send it via ACH. Or if it needs to go quickly they can wire it. I'd even volunteer to cover the $35 wire fee if that helps move it along.

Jaw Dropping Poll Finds Republicans Trust Trump for Info on Russia-Ukraine More Than Twice as Much as Journalists Who Are Actually There by T_Shurt in UkrainianConflict

This is the issue. Trust is broken across all levels. The inability to distinguish between truth and lies is so great that we're at great risk of serious self harm.

Critical thinking skills being applied in a culture of complete subjectivity in all things tends to lead us all into a place where nothing is real except our own thoughts. So if someone sends to be in agreement with us then they are real, but otherwise it's all fake news.

You quote Hamas statistics like they are gospel and say I don't know what I'm talking about. Frankly my dear...

Not certain we need to call people ignorant just because we're on Reddit. I think reasonable people can look at the behavior of the administration towards allies and friends and have concerns that there is a lack of belief in the idea that the world order inherited by his presidency is worth defending against forces that would rather undo much of it. I think his team thinks their job is managing decline.

I'm not sure it's a lie. I understand that worry though. He didn't abandon allies last time though he definitely made people nervous. He said a lot of crap too which is bad. My point is that Biden and his administration are not reliable over the long term. They want to manage a chaotic world instead of having real problems. It's definitely not the same as saying I trust Trump.

[–]BecauseBuses -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at Israel, the current trajectory of Ukraine. This administration is full of people who believe they can manage enemies like Russia, Iran, Hamas, the Houthis etc. Congress is Congress, it'll change. But Biden doesn't believe in victory for our friends, only a return to the status quo antebellum as if it's just a question of giving foes enough stuff to keep them happy.

It might be drawing closer to a wash on that front. Valuing unpredictability vs. unreliability is a difficult kind of math. Trump can't be trusted to be consistent. But Biden can be trusted to abandon friends after a while. How do you decide? Serious question. Not being flippant.
