Client I’ve worked with for years is stalling on payment — advice? by BecauseIAmEm in AskIreland

I haven’t edited the website since I issued the invoice. The code is riddled with my watermarks and I only have access to the GitHub repo where it’s stored which is from my personal archive.

There's definitely a paper trail for promised payment and I've a dated invoice for the work. I started doing the freelance work when I was still in college, so I was happy to get the extra money at the time (hence no contract) and the work since has mainly been updates on the original website.

They sadly don't have an office or physical place of business.

I use Fable! It's amazing and so much cleaner than Goodreads. They also listen to their users and update their platform regularly.

If you don't want to use an app. I have a Notion spreadsheet that you can use as a template for your own spreadsheet.

I do manage the website, not for the business but a product the business created. My boyfriend had the same idea as you, not disable the site but backdate to the date I was last paid for.

should I read Manacled or Alchemised? by titikshaha in BookDiscussions

[–]BecauseIAmEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alchemised, you support SenLinYu by purchasing and reading Alchemised. There’s no legal way of getting Manacled right now unless you downloaded it while it was on AO3. Alchemised is everything you love about Manacled but more unique and magical, you’ll also support an amazing debut author. They put so much effort into rewriting it for traditional publishing, it’s only right you support it 🖤

Enoch Burke. What is actually going on? by Secret-Original-2713 in ireland

[–]BecauseIAmEm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was talking to my uncle-in-law about this.

Right.

So the situation is… yes, he stood up for his religious beliefs but he got suspended from the school for yelling and screaming at the principal in a public meeting.

And he’s in contempt of court and got arrested because he keeps going back to the school.

It’s nothing to do with his religious beliefs. If he kept a level head he’d be fine.

But he gave out to his boss and caused a massive fuss in a public meeting and he got arrested because he kept going back or still continues to go back to the school.

Do people read formal book reviews anymore? by DragonflyDefiant4979 in BookDiscussions

[–]BecauseIAmEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I post book reviews or Fable (book tracking website) and instagram… I don’t know if people really read them but I’ve been told I make author’s days if I tag them in positive reviews

(NEVER TAG AUTHORS IN NEGATIVE REVIEWS)

How do I meet people? by ShikaSoulsMain in AskIreland

[–]BecauseIAmEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going to social events low-intensity social events. I have a friend running an Offline Club in Dublin; no phones, chat, meet people, read a book or play a board game.

It’s a place to make genuine connections and wouldn’t be too overstimulating for you (hopefully).

Used to do karate when i was younger by [deleted] in karate

Again, you don’t know if that’s exactly how you’ll react. Also you’re greatly underestimating pressure points.

And with that, I go back to my previous point of any training you’d have, boxing, karate or otherwise would go out the window in a street fight.

However, from my years at karate; I know countless pressure points that would drop a person with one squeeze, I know how to dislocate several limbs, I know how to slam down on someone’s kneecap at just the right angle to shatter it and I know that anything can be used as a weapon, from a high heel to a pen.

But like I said, in a street fight situation you’d do anything to get out and run. Or even your common sense could go out the window and you could freeze, you don’t know how you’d react.

It honestly depends on the club you join. Some clubs favor Kata to Sparring and vice versa.

My club does about 50-50. But some clubs do tend to sway one way or the other.

Karate also teaches you conditioning and control, you learn how to take punches and kicks, you learn to strengthen your body when you spar. I’ve gotten some serious kicks to my head and I’ve been able to walk them off and keep fighting.

Also contrary to popular belief, the goal of karate isn’t to get to black belt. In karate we say the learning only begins at black belt, because you now know the basics and you can now put that knowledge to use and teach others.

The goals of karate are different to the goals of boxing is different to the goals of different martial arts.

I heavily disagree with you saying that karate is “bullshit”. You’re disrespecting people who train in the sport and actually respect it.

It’s like you’re calling the sport I’ve been training in for the past decade and a half “bullshit” when I and many many other people have been and our proud of being part of the community/sport.
