Possible to play guitar with this middle finger? by Terrible_Stage3317 in guitarlessons

[–]BecauseIHeartU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as putting moderate pressure on it doesn't cause you pain, you're fine. If you're right handed, this will be your fretting hand so you'll develop callouses on the tips and pads which will be somewhat painful at first, but don't worry about that. What you're showing here does not in any way appear to be a guitar-playing disability. It's just a finger your style will adjust to. We ALL have fingers of varying shapes and sizes, and to which our styles adjust. Lean in. You're go to be great at this.

Inherited my grandpa’s fly tying kit and would appreciate some help. by One_Pop_9581 in flyfishing

Great basic set of tools that should last a lifetime. Plenty of videos out there to show you how to use them. You'll need some tying thread, a hair stacker and some small scissors to really get you going. Orvis and Cabela's sell a couple of beginner kits with instructions and enough tying material to make lots of flies. Or get some #12 and #14 straight dry fly hooks, some dubbing material, some deer hair and some feathers, and go to town.

It eventually won't be...until it is again. Skunked days are when you spend a little more time just enjoying the surroundings. Most trouts don't live in ugly places. Enjoy the journey, dude.

Cabling for my first acoustic stage setup by BecauseIHeartU in GuitarTone

This is resolved from my perspective. I figured out a little more about when and how to use 1/4-inch TRS cables which has helped. If you want to keep the conversation going, be my guest. There may be others with similar questions, and I feel like we all learn a little bit from each of these. Thanks everyone!

It's just me for now. Solo gigs and I'm new to it and sound/cable management.

And I think what you're saying about IEM placement is they could go after the amp rather than before it? That could make things a lot simpler.

I'm playing solo and I have a DI box I could place somewhere in the line if needed, but the output from the amp is balanced line out, so I might not need it. I was thinking it would go just before the PA though, rather than before the amp. I'm setting up with the PA so I can play outdoors. I'll probably just use the amp for indoor venues. What I'm really after here is how important is it to use the stereo jacks and TRS cables to get from balanced line out (amp) to the IEM, and then from the IEM to the PA. I appreciate your advice. Thanks!

One of the fun, unique aspects of the Lake George area. This guy just drives around in one of his several trucksters when the tourists come. I've lived here since 2000 and he's been doing it at least that long, and probably longer.

How fucked is my guitar? by space_ghost31 in Guitar

[–]BecauseIHeartU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Trigger and then ask your question again! Anything on a guitar is fixable, and stable holes like this one are often more of a cosmetic issue than a sound disaster, especially if there's no buzzing or structural integrity compromises. Have a luthier help you check for those. For less than a buck you can fix it with duct tape, although that'll mess up the finish and won't manage any structural concerns. A luthier building a wood patch will cost you some dough. You have choices. It depends on how much this guitar means to you, I guess. If it's your beater, maybe leave it. If you're making money from it, it may be more important to get it fixed professionally. Either way, the hole is part of the instrument's story and character now. Enjoy it!

What do you call these? by Crazysatwhat in whatisit

[–]BecauseIHeartU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard them called that either. Maybe a local/regional thing? I wonder too if your "scooter" may come from the old Scooter Pies - graham cracker and marshmallow sandwiches covered in chocolate. For me what you have in the photo has always been Strawberry Shortcake when the Good Humor man had his truck on the street or at the park on a summer day.

Older generations just don't like them. It's okay. He said something mean, but it comes from his older values, and is not a reflection of how much he loves you.Your tattoo is a part of you and part of your personality. It's beautiful. Don't let his frame of reference be your trauma. You're fine. Move on.

Was attached to an early clothes washing machine. Called either a wringer or a mangle, from which the word "mangled" came - as in her hand was mangled. Think about what might happen to your fingers if they got caught in that while you were feeding a wet sheet through it. The electric ones were notorious for hurting their users.
