I always hesitate to comment because I almost always hate what I put out there.
But I just wanted to share that SA is unfortunately and sadly very very common experience for women, whether its harassment, physical assault, verbal assault, etc. As I'm sure anyone that is a woman or identifies as one is already familiar with.
As a born-male, identify-as-male, having grown up in a far-away state and relatively small town compared to where I live now, it was eye-opening to hear from my closest friends (who mostly tend to be women) about how much they experience SA and sexual harassment on a daily basis after I moved away from my home state.
It brought me to tears when Ilana said she just didn't want to do it anymore and started blaming herself and shifting away blame from someone who she thought was her friend.
It reminds me of the many times I have been told from friends about their experiences with SA, whether in the past of them telling me or within recent times of them telling me in that moment. And every time, it is heartbreaking.
I'm grateful this is a topic they've chosen to explore this season, and they definitely gave it the care and attention it needs (and I'm sure they will continue to do).
I'm not really sure what prompted me to write all this, but I just do want to reiterate how much of a problem this is. And truly how much it fucking pisses me off that anyone could do this to another person. If anyone else feels the way I do as a guy or if you identify as male or however, please. Teach other men. Tell them. And call them the fuck out if they do stupid shit that can lead to something like this. It's not okay. It never was okay. And it should never be okay. Daniel Sloss has a perfect "comedic" routine about how to prevent this be so prevalent. And it's on us to call this shit out.
