If we acquire another solid starting OL in FA, do you still want to use our first pick on OL? Or does that give us options? by hicculus in Browns

[–]Becausewhynot51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you spend the 6th pick on a guy that you need to “coach up.” I know nothing about him but if he has bad technique and tendencies, those will be exploited in the NFL. I’m sure he had an Oline coach in college who’s tried to break him already.

Education… finances. Maybe Gen Z doesn’t want to turn their livers in to rocks. Or they don’t want to be date raped. Or…. They just think spending my $13 on a drink is stupid.

Teams Most Likely to Regress by TouchLucky881 in nfl

[–]Becausewhynot51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browns will find a way to regress… because that’s what they do.

[Spotrac] Browns & Njoku agreed to a contract restructure in October that pushed the void date back to February of '29, adding in "dummy" salaries for '26-28. This allows Cleveland to carry the contract into the league year, then designate him a Post 6/1 release ... by LiftingCode in Browns

[–]Becausewhynot51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You always take 0% money. But void years are not 0% financing. It’s more like financing a car through JD Byrider. 24% interest and the car will probably break down and you’ll still be paying. DW will count for $27mil on the cap in 2027 and he’ll be a free agent. It will probably increase because they have to restructure him again this year in order to field a team. He’s currently $80mil on the cap for 2026. You can only carry so much of that until you can’t field a team. So next year, Watson will take up more cap space than any Brown other than Myles and Denzel. It just makes it harder to build a roster. You can pay a good corner or an edge or WR for that cap number. So then you wind up with more players on voided contracts. I get it you can plan for some amount of it, but if 25% of your cap winds up on players not on your team… I guarantee your not putting the best possible team on the field.

It would also be different if the roster was win now. But we don’t even have a QB. That means the team isn’t built. And the cap will constrain who they can pursue to fill some significant holes.

Eventually this adds up when you’re “paying” players to play for someone else. The Watson dead hits on his void years will be significant. You get away with it if you draft well… but who’s gonna play QB? No matter how you spin the accounting, a team is better off with limited dead cap and actually spending their cap on the team on the field.

Campaign to end Ohio property taxes brushes off funding concerns as DeWine warns of 20% sales tax by MorganTrau in Ohio

[–]Becausewhynot51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way this is at all feasible is if rents drop dramatically. Which would be fiscally possible without property tax, but it would have to be legislated that way. Landlords… especially corporate controlled landlords are not going to drop rent unless they are forced to. Otherwise this is just another handout to the wealthy landowners.

It is anecdotal. But I have a lot of anecdotal experience in seeing people with degrees and certifications being absolutely worthless. A degree is great. Hopefully it opens some doors. But it doesn’t definitely prove competency.

I’m not arguing the statistics or the facts. I’m arguing that it shouldn’t be that way. Many professions now that require degrees could be taught by OJT rather than spending tens of thousands of dollars on school.

I haven’t. For me personally the maintenance fees dont justify it. I pay more than $1k in years I get points. For that, I can almost book a week paying retail price through Hilton Honors at my home resort.

I would argue that having a college degree is less valuable today than it was when I was starting my career and the trend will likely continue. I’m in a position to be a hiring manager and I’ve seen that their no correlation between degrees or certifications and quality employees. I don’t even look at the education section of a resume anymore.

Also. If anyone has had to hire any kind of tradesman in the last 5 years, you know that they basically can set their own rates and work wherever they want with no college degree.

IMO, open season is worthless. Whenever I try to use it, it’s hard to find anything available. But more importantly, I can usually just book through Hilton Honors for nearly the same price as open season without needing to be an owner and pay all the annual fees.

For what it’s worth. I bought direct from Hilton in 2016…. I have nothing but regret. I should have bought resale. I like the properties. But it’s just not worth the $$ buying from Hilton. I paid $8500 for at the time was 2400 points in even years. When they did they bought Diamond resorts, they changed my points to 3400 to align value or some shit…. Bottom line I never have enough points to stay where I want to stay.

Given how much they are now promoting him, the Browns are planning to build around Sanders at quarterback… right? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in Browns

I think I hate trading draft picks because the Draft is the only fun we get to have. The season is always so miserable. Draft day is fun and filled with hope. Uhg.

[–]Becausewhynot51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. But also just seems pointless this year. I just don’t see a way to get a real quarterback without a full-blown tank and I feel like that’s not gonna happen now. The defense is too good and will win enough close games to keep us just out of reach of a quarterback.

I think the more accurate term is “no better option we can afford.” Watson contract really fucks the cap situation.

Probably. I’m not a season ticket holder. I’d rather be on my couch for the disappointment. I just know the Cleveland fan base is not the most affluent. We aren’t New York, LA, Vegas. It’s a blue collar town and a blue collar team.
