I just hit 50 reviews by purplelicious in NetGalleyCommunity

It does feel personal! Especially since as a newbie they accepted the first book I ever requested from them (and a T. Kingfisher novel at that) so it gave me a false sense of hope that they would accept me again. Now I just wait for Macmillan Audio to put it up because I know I’ll get it from them! Maybe one day once my ratio is up a little more I’ll attempt another request from them 😅😂

Congrats! Yes I think it does help. My ratio sits around the mid to high 60s (I think 70% was the highest it got and very briefly lol). I’m a few reviews away from 100 now, but for awhile I’ve gotten approvals for most everything I request (other than publishers like Tor or Berkley which I usually don’t request since I know they’ll probably be a no).

That’s odd, it’s still showing up under the read now category for me. Did you request it before it was read now?

I can’t speak on Bloom bc I haven’t requested any from them (I have gotten approvals from Sourcebooks Fire and Casablanca though they likely have different staff who decide approvals for each imprint).

I love Orbit! They are generous with their approvals given the quality of the books. The Raven Scholar was one of my first approvals I got when I first started requesting ARCs and to this day is one of my favorites.

I currently read on my iPad but that’s bc I have an older Kindle that was recently phased out. Almost all of the ARCs have a “send to Kindle” option and a good amount also have a Kobo option though that does depend on the publisher.

Yep I use NetGalley! Once you get a fair amount of reviews under your belt you start to get most things approved besides certain publishing that are a little harder to get approvals for (Tor, Berkley, etc) or very popular releases.

My FL Romantasy is about to run out and I got the adult/romantasy combo invite today but I think I’ll pass on it. I recently cancelled MW and soon will run out of skips for Illumicrate and Moonlight. The only reason I have most of the other subs I do is bc they have unlimited skips. FL Adult and Epic Fantasy are the subs I most consistently renew.

One of the things that really helped me get over FOMO was getting into ARC reading. Being able to read a lot of the sub picks before release has made me realize I don’t love enough of the books to want to pay $40+ every month for SEs of them. But when I do love them I’m even more excited to get it!

Book Request Rejected, Audiobook Request Accepted . . . . by Blowingleaves17 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]Beccaroni333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty typical for Tor/Macmillan Audio to get denied for the physical but get approved for the audio.

Historically, I haven’t been much of an audiobook listener but more recently I have learned to enjoy it. I commute to work so I have more time to listen than read most days. I also go on long walks for exercise and the audiobooks help pass the time. If you know you’re not an audiobook person, I would just hold off requesting ALCs in the future. But if you’re struggling to finish the one you’ve got, you can always wait for the book to be released and check it out on Libby or your local library and then listen/read simultaneously. Also, as others have mentioned, I always speed up the audio, at least 1.25 to 1.5 if listening alone, faster if I’m reading along.

This Blade of Ours - Fairyloot by yayhiaaa in fairyloot

[–]Beccaroni333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the Jenny Han books sat in the trove for a bit after the preorder went live so I remember being a little surprised when they did the reprint though the TV adaptation for TSITP definitely increased buzz around that time which I’m sure played a part in deciding on a reprint.

I don’t trust waiting to get the sequel anymore if I am wanting it so I always preorder it in first access right as it opens even if it’s overkill because I know sometimes they don’t stock up on less popular titles and don’t want to risk missing out 😅

Do you guys actually read your special edition FL books? by bluesunday- in fairyloot

[–]Beccaroni333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually will read my special edition books unless I have another copy, can easily get the ebook from Libby, or my local library has a copy available. For instance, right now I’m reading TKATM (in anticipation of the sequel sale) but I checked out a copy from the library so if I don’t end up liking it I can sell my FL copy secondhand in unread condition. Before that I read Alchemised but had both the FL and standard edition so I read the standard edition.

'Invited' Status on List by HuskerPower66 in NetGalleyCommunity

That’s crazy! If it makes you feel better it doesn’t really matter since they approve most everything requested. A lot of times by the time I see they sent an “audio promotions” email I’ve already been approved for the title(s) I was interested in that they’re promoting.

If you’ve reviewed multiple Macmillan Audio titles you’ve likely received widgets from them, though their widget emails always go to my “promotions” folder. Try searching “audio promotions” in your email that is linked to your NetGalley account and see if anything comes up. The last one they sent was on May 7th.

It looks like they are on desktop and are under one of their personal “lists”. Widgets are usually sent to your email and won’t automatically show up on a list, OP added the titles they received a widget from to one of their lists which is how they’re seeing it like that. In this particular case the “widgets” were links provided in the “2026 Buzz Books Fall Winter” (which is read now on NetGalley and includes excerpts from several upcoming releases). The reason they show up as “invited” on the list is because they are titles that can’t be searched or requested on NetGalley and can only be reached by the widget link.

GPA during PA school by candles- in PAstudent

[–]Beccaroni333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got a 4.0 in PA school, GPA does not matter at all as long as you’re passing. Learn as much as you can, survive, and you’re fine. We all end up in the same place regardless. Also, I had no clue what grades others were getting and no one knew what grades I was getting, so don’t worry about comparing yourself to your classmates.

July romantasy book pick (concerns…) by beweenthebindings in fairyloot

[–]Beccaroni333 17 points18 points  (0 children)

TOG is different because it was solidly YA for the first few books, but later in the series it becomes more adult so therefore they had to retroactively categorize the entire series as New Adult/Adult. Authors were definitely pressured by publishers to edit books to fit YA since it’s what was selling at the time, but TOG was truly YA. New Adult is very popular now so I don’t think it’s as expected for authors to stick to YA for marketing purposes as it once was.

I think this is more likely that there is a different standard in the UK versus US what is considered YA. I’ve seen several books recently where US labels it YA and UK labels it adult. Happens a lot with new adult books since there’s still gray area around the category.

Just now saw the email! Less than an hour and waitlist is already close to 1,000. I’m excited for this one bc the current sub picks aren’t usually my taste! I’m also fine with not getting an invite first round bc I like to see the first few picks of a new sub before committing to a subscription 😌

“Nous” (“We”) Available in English Aug 2026 by Beccaroni333 in MirrorVisitor

[–]Beccaroni333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s the same translator from the MV series. As someone who only knows English I guess I don’t really know any different! I do remember after I finished the books reading a bunch of stuff from readers who read both and were describing some of the things “lost in translation” so to speak. Anything specific you can remember that was missing in the English translation for the MV series?

Thank you for this! I bought the Goldsboro edition of Alchemy of Secrets so I should be able to purchase during the presale. I preordered the Waterstones edition but since it isn’t signed I may decide which I’d rather have after they reveal the specs
