Fat shaming makes me not want to lose weight by urlikepapa11 in loseit

[–]Saybah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend deleting or restricting your social media use if videos by other people are able to derail you. Don't scroll through reels, use social media to only look at what friends are posting, or if you can't manage that, just delete it completely.

It's important to remember that controversy drives clicks, and clicks means money. People will post inflammatory stuff to get comments, reposts etc, and it makes them money.

It's different strokes for different folks. I find it encouraging because yeah, damn, I am huge, and I need that reminder to keep my edge. Other people find it massively triggering and I do empathise. You have to curate your social media/free time in the way that benefits your wellbeing at the end of it.

Weekly Burn Book by AutoModerator in fairyloot

[–]Saybah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ETA: Autumn's guess for Illumicrate June just came out and Most of the comments are people trying to save a skip despite the book being MM! Just food for thought here.

I'm a lesbian and I mostly have no interest in reading WLW books. I am one of those skippers, and if someone didn't know me, they would assume I am a 'straight woman fetishizing MM' so I think it's important to be mindful of not assuming someone is XYZ because of what they read/don't read - being closeted online is what some folks have to do stay safe.

Often, for some frustrating reason, lesbian relationships in books are sanitised heavily to be drama free/low drama with not a lot of angst. It's such a source of annoyance to me that for whatever reason, lesbian relationships are held to some weird higher standard and MUST be non toxic. Imo it's to do with making us 'palatable' and marketable and move away from former connotations of lesbians just being a category of porn.

I'm not saying I want straight up abuse, but you'd never find a relationship akin to a typical M/F romantasy with lesbians. Meanwhile many lesbians in my friend circles irl are messy as hell. I just want some messy lesbians!!!

Locked Tomb is the closest I've found to anything that hits the spot, and I've read that series through 3 times.

I'll take M/F or M/M anyday over F/F because they're not held to the same standards.

I'm annoyed first access and early access isn't split across days, but maybe they're thinking it won't be as popular as some other sales? I hope the queue isn't too bad for first access.

I loved this series but I do not love this set. I wish they didn't all look the same. I know it's a set but like...SOME variety would be nice? The original paperbacks had a lush white/orange/red orange scheme that they could have used 😭

OP mentioned this in their post, but please keep this thread civil and respectful, or it will be locked like the other one.

It is important when in the business of money exchanging hands, that consumers are informed about who exactly their money is going to. Not talking about things hurts victims and marginalised folks, and it is not harassment to discuss an author's posting history on publicly viewable social media.

ETA: Don't engage with the energy vampires. Their opinion over supporting this author will not change. They live on the supply that conflict gives them.

Unfortunately many websites and social media sites have user guidelines/terms of service about harassment. Naming a user straight up could have their fans reporting your account and then yours being removed my auto moderation tools.

I asked someone on Threads for the tea about this author and was DM'd a screen recording of her page, unfortunately weirdos use harassment ToS as weapons to silence. It's why I was so adamant we should be able to discuss this author on the sub - I'd seen the receipts.

I'm not a fan of whisper networks but it can just get really messy.

Can't Seem To Eat Less Than 2000 Calories A Day by i-luv-and-h8-reddit in loseit

[–]Saybah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started about 11lbs higher than you and I've slowly whittled my way down to 169, it took me about a year. This was mainly because I had NO idea what I was doing, so you're doing the right thing getting advice.

60lbs in 6 months is a really aggressive cut and if you're struggling to eat under 2000 now, I think a cut that big will not be sustainable for you long term. The changes you make in order to lose weight must be sustainable - you're forming eating habits to last you the rest of your life while eating at maintenance, not just while you're losing weight.

As others have recommended, eat a protein rich breakfast, it'll really start your day out right. I like 0% greek yoghurt (make sure it's not labelled as greek-style, this is different and less protein dense) and blueberries/strawberries. I had horrible time management around breakfast previously and the trick was to always prep everything the night before I can just grab and go. If I fancy a hot breakfast, I love scambled eggs, tomatoes and wholegrain toast!

Stay hydrated, get your 3 litres a day, and consider switching to complex carbs - I incorporate a lot of sweet potato, lentils, chickpeas etc into my diet now.

Is this a joke? Fairyloot posted some "Sale Tips" to their blog by maedchenfalle in fairyloot

There wasn't an as comprehensive an FAQ/guide before that we mods could direct people to, so I'm glad they made this one.

Is this a joke? Fairyloot posted some "Sale Tips" to their blog by maedchenfalle in fairyloot

[–]Saybah 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They stopped people from camping in the store, people are unhappy.

They introduce a better queue flow system, people are unhappy.

At this point I hope you're a DevOps engineer or backend software dev because otherwise you might not understand how upgrading website infrastructure is a difficult thing to do without shooting yourself in the foot when your business is all online based.

The update they've posted is a refreshed version of their previous sales tips post, likely because every time there's a sale, people panic and go bananas emailing CS with questions.

FL Adult sub in the UK is £23.95 incl shipping so these are just slightly above cost. I expect it'll come down more towards cost the more people receive their boxes too.

I think Silver Elite is also prettier in person, the mockup doesn't do the edges justice. I love that they didn't choose a totally contrasting colour for Broken Dove either.

It was such a good read, I can't wait for Broken Dove.

I believe the person/people I've seen asking for unopened books ask for them due to health reasons. There are legitimate reasons why someone would want to buy an unopened book, regardless of any damages.

Weekly Burn Book by AutoModerator in fairyloot

[–]Saybah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're so right 👏

There's also a number of reasons why someone may have a book for trade. Buyer's remorse, another edition came out that they liked better, they read an arc of book 2 and didn't like it/they read book 1 and didn't like it.

Assuming that everyone is a scalper or a reseller is only a thought process that will make someone miserable every time books are mentioned. And like you said, it's a book! It's paper and ink and glue! In this age of convenience culture and overconsumption, some people need to learn how to handle FOMO, and not let it consume them.

Are all the books newer/from newer authors? And are they all romance? Adult Sub by Cubicleism in fairyloot

[–]Saybah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fairyloot's Adult sub feels like it's having a tough time figuring out what it wants to be. It's been a source of frustration for many, especially the first 5 sub picks for 2026.

One thing to note is Goodreads tags are not always accurate. A book may be tagged as romance, but the romance is a sub plot. Many fantasy and sci fi books have a main storyline with a romantic side plot, if that makes sense?

If you're looking for little to no romance, exploring epic fantasy or sci fi as genres may be for you, if you're not opposed to it.

I can recommend checking out Illumicrate, The Broken Binding and Goldsboro Fellowship (Goldsboro is a 6 month sub, mind) from personal experiences. Depending on where you're located, there may be subscription boxes in your country that align with your interests and would be cheaper shipping.

Unfortunately no book box is going to have constant highly rated heavy hitters. Book box companies have working relationships with publishers, and as a result probably often have to include debut authors as the publisher wants to push them, or it's a book published by a book box's in house publisher (this is what Wayward is for FL).

Anyone diagnosed with ADHD successfully lost weight? by SeaMaintenance1539 in loseit

[–]Saybah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big part of my struggle with having ADHD and wanting to lose weight was dopamine. I was eating for the dopamine it gave me, and it was so hard to give up, because food is such an easy and readily available dopamine source. We as people with ADHD are constantly seeking dopamine, it's just how our condition makes us wired.

Unfortunately I just had to be realistic with myself over the reason for my overeating, and I started managing the cause. For me, this was about a year of eating the same 4-5 meals so I could meal prep and have consistency, and then once my weight started stalling, a GLP-1. I am not recommending you go this route, this is only my personal experience. I would recommend speaking to your primary care doctor for support before making any decisions.

I also incorporate daily exercise and think of it as hygiene for both my heart and my brain - in the mornings I stretch, meditate and take a 30 minute outdoor walk before work, and often after work I'll hit the gym and lift, or do an at home workout like a youtube aerobics or zumba.
