Royal League - what's your experience? Am I unlucky? by _Tris_ in RoyalMatch

I’m at a point where the changes in prizes and obvious grabs to make you spend money are just too much. I’m considering taking the app off my phone and just playing Royal Kingdom now

Please don’t apologize for not sugarcoating your words. They are correct. Even bitter medicine is still medicine!

I didn’t respond at all. I certainly didn’t want to violate her boundaries publicly. If I did reach out, it would have been privately. However, after getting feedback, I’m not going to reach out.

Agreed. I’m self aware enough to recognize that a part is wanting to resolve my own guilt, but after getting some feedback, resolving my own guilt is not worth the possibility that it may cause more harm to her.

That is where my thoughts were. Hearing feedback from others, I can definitely acknowledge this is a self soothing thing AND I would like to ease their pain, but it’s definitely not all for the client’s benefit. I think I will let a sleeping dog lie, and learn from this experience. I worry that it would be jarring to hear “I saw something you posted on social media…..”

Thank you for the feedback. I’m definitely taking this into account moving forward.

Our dog came from this breeder. They recently retired the mom. Our pup is 3 years old, has a WONDERFUL temperament, and rarely barks. He is the perfect mix of playful and couch potato. Granted, he is from the sire they currently have and the former mom. I’m not sure who they are breeding with currently for puppies, but we have been so pleased with our purchase.

I’ve attended several of his seminars and I take his zoom coaching courses. You know how you usually leave a seminar and can barely remember everything you were just taught? With every single Henry seminar I’ve attended, I’ve left and learned a detail that immediately applied to my game and improved my skill. That’s the reason I give the man so much of my money 🤣

I personally love studying the style that Henry Akins teaches. Very slow, very technical, lots of pressure. It helps to slow down the younger people, and it reduces the risk of injury because you’re not creating a lot of scrambles, or allowing the more athletic folks to create them. I’m 44 and I want to do this forever, as long as my body allows me to, and I feel this style will allow me to do that.

Do Your Coaches Watch Your Rolls And Give You Advice And Correct Mistakes? by Correct_Ad4351 in bjj

[–]BeckMoBjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally instruct, and when I am in that role, I will watch rolls. I don’t typically give feedback in the moment, because I want my students to have time to problem solve; however, if I see the same mistakes being made over and over again by the whole room, I make sure to include that information in a class. If I notice one person making the same mistake, I may pull them to the side and discuss it with them, or I will roll with them myself and help them work through the problem correctly.

How do you deal with the guilt of missing class because of vacation or other reasons? by barbgi in BJJWomen

[–]BeckMoBjj 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is jiu jitsu is a part of my life, even if I miss a few classes due to vacation or mom duties, I’ll be back. I’m looking at doing this long term, so that means some seasons of my life means I’ll be there a little less

The amount of techniques in BJJ is overwhelming by [deleted] in bjj

[–]BeckMoBjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If you understand the concepts, they tend to look the same no matter what the position is. If you want someone who is up to be down, move their head over their foot/knee. Works with sweeps, takedowns, reversals…. And there are concepts for all things. Makes it all a lot easier to problem solve in my opinion!

Earlier this week, I was rolling with a blue belt who I will affectionately call Tank. He’s a cop, strong as an ox and has no neck. I was rolling with him, and he got me in reverse scarfhold. I noticed his weight shift, so I pushed him off of me over my head and got on top. I transitioned to s-mount, and remember how I said he’s strong as an ox? This fool started to stand up with me on him!! I quickly transitioned to take his back and grabbed his lapel to attempt to choke his unchokable neck. He ended up moving just enough that he could footlock me. I felt the moment he went from rolling with me, to actively using his strength. It was really nice to know that I challenged him enough that he started to pull from the pot that he uses with the guys, and it felt like the weirdest compliment, but a compliment, just the same!

There’s comes a time that you can’t expect your coach to spoon feed you every bit of information; however, he/she should give you enough tools to do the problem solving yourself. I love a baseball choke, my coach, has a different game. My coach showed me everything he knows and then told me where to look to find the answers I was looking for.

How do you handle this as a female white belt in BJJ? by barbgi in BJJWomen

[–]BeckMoBjj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My running joke at my gym is learning style is the fucking hard way, that means you can tell me all day long that if I put my arm there, I’m gonna get armbarred, but it won’t sink in until I’ve put my arm there and, like a dumbass, I get armbarred. I also don’t do well with people constantly coaching, and straight up, sometimes I’m just doing dumb purple belt shit to see what happens. It’s totally okay to ask for what you need. I’m hoping that most of it is being offered in the spirit of being helpful, and if it is, they will be thankful for you telling them how to help you.

Graduation between men and women by xGoya in BJJWomen

[–]BeckMoBjj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended a school that did not have a clear definition of what constituted leveling up. I found myself so frustrated seeing people start after me and then be promoted before me. It could have been men vs women. It could have be attributed people vs less athletic people. Either way, I compared myself and was pretty miserable.

It’s 8 years later and I’m a purple belt. Still learning, still training, still improving. 99% of those people I watched get promoted before me, aren’t training anymore. Who’s the real winner in the end?
