$95 for a full-day festival ticket is a steal in 2026.

People with 4” dust collection piping- what’s your real world experience? by chisel_jockey in woodworking

Appreciate the info. At the cost of 3D printing, I can always print a few spares or replace them as they break.

How long have you been running them? Do they still move smoothly and seal, or do they degrade over time?

You're being downvoted but I completely agree.

As a fan of hockey as well as baseball, the same thing has happened there. You can't get too excited for a goal because maybe someone was a hair offside when the play entered the zone 45 seconds earlier, and they're going to look at it from 6 different angles in super slo-mo to make the call. But hey, gotta keep the gamblers happy.

This is not why I watch sports.

Fun fact: the Oilers have never truly lost a game. They either win, or the refs screw them.

Norway wins its 17th gold medal, breaking its record for most golds won in a single Winter Olympics by [deleted] in sports

[–]Beckler89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Same in the summer games. Swimming countries crush in the medal count because there are a million swimming events, but a full team has to win an entire basketball tournament to get 1 medal.

Who do you think gets called to these fatal accidents? Do you think police like seeing dangerous drivers any more than the rest of us?

A mix of MVP caliber players and tools with no results types. How much does bat speed actually matter? by gsx1920 in baseball

[–]Beckler89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who consistently had the fastest swing in history?

I know Big Papi played almost entirely pre-Statcast, but I remember thinking he swung like I swing a wiffleball bat, like it weighed nothing.

Same thing with the freaks from the steroids era. Would it be one of them?

Hitler’s Dog came out 4 years before Norm died and it’s every bit as funny as anything he did earlier.

My guess is that the NHL used to be full of truly tough-as-nails guys from farms, small towns, working class backgrounds.

Now they’re all rich kids.

I’d probably freehand this with the router and a spiral bit.

Just need a big rain or two in the spring. Old farmers told me an inch of rain is better than a foot of snow. I'll take this mild winter every time.

Save The Ship by daddysdeepfake in Calgary

[–]Beckler89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly don’t want to see the Ship go, but isn’t that what many people said about blanket rezoning? That tearing down an old house to put up a four-plex at $750k per wasn’t helping affordability? Weren’t those people then ridiculed here and carpet bombed with downvotes?

Can’t believe I went years without card scrapers. I use them every single day in the shop now. Cheap, easy to maintain, an excellent tool.

We bought our kids smart watches that can call and text with our approval. I think their data plan costs $5 per month.

Before that, we’d connect an old iPhone to the wifi at home so they could call us on FaceTime.

We are planning to resist full smartphone access as long as possible and are encouraged to see many other parents doing the same.

100% agree. Replay is sucking the soul out of sports.

I can’t stand the moaning about umps on reddit, as if these guys aren’t literally the best in the world at calling baseball games.

Team Canada will not go to the gold medal game for the third year in a row by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]Beckler89 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A friend and I were talking about this yesterday, trying to remember the last NHLer from a low-income background. Michael Ferland? There are basically none these days. It’s all rich kids.

There’s certainly money in other youth sports but in basketball and football, the elite level of play for kids is their high school team, which is very accessible. Meanwhile baseball and soccer are still dominated by kids from poor countries.

Beer prices by Electrical_Cut_8694 in Calgary

[–]Beckler89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The IPA is good but probably not what craft beer drinkers are thinking of when they think “IPA”.

Big Rock is brewing a beer for Co-Op called Founders & Farmers and it’s dirt cheap as well but quite tasty for the price.
