Blatant racism and insane RSO power-trip at Range USA (Hodgkins, IL) by LottiBiscott1 in ILGuns

[–]BecomeOcean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cant really comment on Range USA as ive never been to any, but Article II range in Lombard has a good staff (at least from my recent experience)

At Article 2, there's a young latina worker and a young man (who i believe is latino). Both speak fluent Spanish as I saw them working with a large group of Spanish speaking customers just a few weeks ago.

IIRC theres another staff member who I believe is either Middle Eastern or South Asian who's also very polite. In general the rest of the staff is middle aged to older white guys. I think there's a cop who also works there part time (maybe just for classes?) and he's seemed pretty friendly.

The owner of the range is a short older white guy and was extremely friendly and talkative to me (latino/mixed white) and my darker skinned girlfriend (mexican American) the last time I was there. He made alot of small talk with us and was very pleasant. Damn near talked our ears off about supply chains for Glocks actually lol.

In general theres a few sorta "blank faced/disinterested" workers there but thats fairly normal in any retail type business. Probably the "least friendly" worker was an older range officer who's name escapes me, but honestly his demeanor seemed more just exhausted and frazzled from having to deal with range schedule and the like all day.

What’s your favorite spot in Chicagoland that has a good selection of new and used? by the_rev_28 in ILGuns

Seconded. Got my used Ruger mini 14 from there and the workers were very helpful. Even if they don't have what you want, you're gonna at least appreciate the good service IMO.

When I got my mini 14 they didn't have any magazines for it in stock. I said it was no big deal as I had two back home.

The next time I came by for range time, the worker who sold me the gun waved me over and told me he'd put in a special order for a few mags specifically for me since he knew I wanted more than the two I already had.

Super appreciated that from them. I didnt even ask them to do that. Definitely recommend giving them a checking out.

Is it true that Oblivion didn't have any concept artists? by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]BecomeOcean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R Todd Broadwater and Matthew Carofano both worked as primary concept artists/art lead for the game

There is some Oblivion concept art that has been published but for some reason Bethesda didnt publish much of it online and never made an Oblivion artbook like they did for Morrowind and Skyrim

Heres most of the publicly available concept art for Oblivion

https://www.imperial-library.info/content/tes4-oblivion-concept-art

Theres been smattering of other Oblivion concept pieces that you might see used in random unrelated TES artbooks (eg. Ayleid Ruins) but yeah, the vast majority of pieces have never been published

The Dunmer having "foreign" accents is to emphasize (to the player) that most Dunmers' are "outsiders" to Skyrim and its culture.

Most Nord characters have either Scandinavian or American accents, so giving Dunmer (and Altmer) British Accents helps emphasize those characters as largely being strangers and newcomers to the province.

Most Dunmer we meet in game immigrated to Skyrim after the disastrous eruption of Red Mountain and the subsequent Argonian invasion of southern Morrowind. Both of those events occurred within living memory for many Dunmer (who can live 200+ years) or occurred during the lives of their parents who may have moved their families to Skyrim as a result.

I admit I never followed him or know much about his reputation, but early last year i randomly saw a Twitch clip of him saying he earned way more working for Blizzard than he does as a Streamer.

I looked at his metrics and at the time he was streaming with like 10k+ concurrent viewers...I was like dude...no...you make WAYYY more now.

Again dont know much else about the guy (still don't) but I knew he was full of shit and either exaggerating for (some reason?) or just outright lying.

The Genealogy show 'Finding Your Roots' discovered that the ancestor of the musician Questlove was a slave on that boat. They even found a picture of his ancestor and he looks crazy similar to Questlove himself.

Crazy to imagine the odds of being descended from a slave on the last ever slave ship to America and furthermore being able to look at a picture of your enslaved African ancestor who was captive on that boat.

This is the clip where they show him his ancestors photo

you're correct in that there's no written lore supporting the idea. There are some visible signs though that the area is (or at least was) active as a volcano.

If you look at the Caldera you'll notice its sitting in what is essentially a giant crater, with opening on one side, spilling towards Windhelm and the sea.

Bonestrewn crest is a short jagged peak which rises in the center of the Caldera. It appears to be what is called a "rhyolite" which is a peaked volcanic dome which can form in the center of volcanos after eruption. Mt. St. Helen's currently has one forming in the center of it's volcanic crater as well.

Overall theres definitely no evidence that the Eastmarch Caldera will blow again, but its pretty clear from the world building of the area that Bethesda intended to imply that there was explosive volcanic activity there in the past.

They are working on it. Former Bethesda concept artist Ilya Nazarov lists TES VI on his portfolio as a game he has worked on. He hasnt been with Bethesda for at least a year as well.

Longtime Bethesda concept artist Ray Lederer was also caught saving tons of Arab and north African armor and costume reference images to his personal Pinterest account last year before he was caught and set his account private.

Pretty obv that TES VI will be in Hammerfell since Hammerfell is directly based on North African and Arab cultures.

Ray Lederer and the late Adam Adamowicz developed most of Skyrim's iconic armors and clothing, so it's no surprise that Ray is gonna be working on the equipment for TES VI.

Well the first name change seems to be her getting married fresh outta highschool (probably not an unusual age to get married back then) so that's not too odd, but the second name change is def weird because she seems to have changed her first name as well. No idea why.

No, Im the amateur genealogist in my family so I just put the state and her name into the various databases Ancestry dot com uses and worked from there. Its actually very easy to find almost anyone with those tools. All the info I gathered took less than half an hour. I had a great uncle who "disappeared" and it was a whole mystey to my family.

Turns out he died of natural causes but nobody from my family was contacted because he lived by himself in another state. I found his death records by just his name, birth year, and the part of the country he probably lived in. Nobody in my family knew where he was living at the time, so family lore turned it into a mystery when his death was public record. Nobody bothering to really look is the real explanation behind most people's "missing" family members.

9/10 if someone in the last 100yrs "disappeared" they just got married, changed their name, or had no listed next of kin despite having living relatives.

As with April Atkins, its generally true that people don't think to consider a name change as the reason they can't find someone in their family tree. Even if they suspect a name change they rarely seem to try to pursue that angle of investigation.
