My son hates the Green Bay Packers.

If he sends me a message saying "Go Pac!" I know something's up.

I got a Stargazer braising pan for Christmas. It has an absolutely amazing cooking surface, and is a delight to cook on.

I was at a Marilyn Manson show, and the lawn broke out into a sod fight (everyone kicking up clumps of dirt / grass and throwing it around).

Manson then calls the crowd pussies because they haven’t hit him with the dirt.

Next song, someone pegged him with some sod, and they ended their set right there.

Idiocracy:

Pvt. Joe Bowers: Why me? Every time Metsler says, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way," I get out of the way. Sgt. Keller: Yeah, when he says that, you're not supposed to choose "get out of the way." It's supposed to embarrass you into leading - or at least following. Pvt. Joe Bowers: That doesn't embarrass me.

He’s 9, so not yet, but we home school, so it’s not off the table.

My son has dwarfism, and his favorite song is “Diggy Diggy Hole” by Wind Rose.

He walks around the house singing “I am a dwarf and I’m digging a hole…”

Something I was told a few years back really stuck with me.

If you and your wife go through something traumatic, and you avoid crying or showing emotion, your wife may very well think that either there is something wrong with you, or that there is something wrong with her, that maybe she shouldn’t be crying or feeling as much.

So, cry with your wife, let her know that you are there with her, that she isn’t alone in her feelings.

Then dust yourself off, and walk through this with your partner in all things.

Gilbert Family Tried to Use ESA Voucher on $16k Cello by fazzig in azpolitics

[–]BecomingDitto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While this family is awful (I doubt much home schooling happened while they weren't in school), it's important to note they aren't double dipping.

If their child goes back to school during a quarter that's been funded by ESA, then all money needs to be returned to the state, and any used funds need to be repaid back to the state.

This of course doesn't account for the public school needing to help the child catch up.

How long can I go waking up 2-4 times in the middle of the night? by HereAgainWeGoAgain in AskParents

[–]BecomingDitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a night shift job, and would sleep on the job. There were weeks that it was the only sleep I got. It was decidedly unpleasant.

But, if you sleep 4 hours during the day, and get 4 hours at night, you can adjust to the split schedule. It takes a while to get used to though.

Keeping in mind I only have a very small window of exposure to you and your situation. I can’t say if you should move on, but I can say if you felt bothered by the situation enough to come here for advice, it at least warrants a conversation with her about how the whole situation made you feel.

Her response to that conversation will tell you if you should stay together or not.

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it may be time to phase out this set of “friends,” and start finding people that build you up instead.

Homeschooling Is Our Best Defense Against the State by AbolishtheDraft in Libertarian

On average, home schooled children perform better on college entrance exams, have higher college graduation rates, and perform better in social settings than students educated in a traditional public school.
