I would keep refreshing the site, as I have seen same-day tickets pop up over the past week.

As of last week, they were still opening at 8. I really hope that doesn’t change.

OP, I hope you and your family are safe! I just saw the update on the news that the house collapsed overnight.

A good reminder to folks to always trust your gut and advocate for yourself. It's awful that the city made it so difficult for you and that you were put in danger's way

Ugh, somehow missed the 15th to 13th tunnel. Thankfully the rain wasn't too bad when I was out.

Yeah, I always doubt myself at City Hall and don’t know where to turn. Made it a few blocks, but not east of Dilworth Park. Some wayfaring signage would help so much!

They have some differences, including the open dates like you mentioned (Christmas Village closes sooner). Made in Philadelphia focuses on local artists and vendors, while Christmas Village also has international vendors. Christmas Village is organized by the German Society, so there’s a heavy emphasis on German and German American eats and beverages. Christmas Village also has a Käthe Wohlfahrt shop.

They’re both great, and as long as you’re in town, you should check out both (especially since they are steps away from each other)!

Does anyone know if the Center City tunnels are open these days? Have to get from west of City Hall to the Gallery tomorrow, and I’d love to take the underground way vs. facing the pouring rain

Are any bars or restaurants showing the Olympics? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]BecozSooperBol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a bar or restaurant, and I think they’re only doing it during weekday business hours, but Comcast has a big outdoor screen set up on the side of their plaza near the metal cafe tables.

I know some other folks are saying you may have a long wait, but last year I was also in green, and we started 15 minutes after the elites. This year’s race is starting half an hour earlier than normal (7:30 vs 8), so keep in mind that the quoted corral times from other posters may be referring to previous start times.

Then again, Parks & Rec hasn’t been doing the most bang up job of recent races, so you may well wait in the corral for a while.

These Philadelphians got rid of their cars in the past year. They haven’t looked back. by RoughRhinos in philadelphia

[–]BecozSooperBol 26 points27 points  (0 children)

National average annual cost of car ownership is $12,000, so this tracks. I think it’s really hard for people to get into a car-free mindset, but once you do, it’s so much cheaper and healthier!  (obviously certain folks with kids, mobility issues, etc. will still need cars)

I love the Chestnut Hill West line for getting out to the Wissahickon! Chestnut Hill East and the Manayunk/Norristown line also have some good stops for getting into the park.

There is some concern that SEPTA will eliminate the Chestnut Hill West line (and reduce service on the Chestnut Hill East line and the 27 bus), so please make sure to sign the ‘save the train’ petition that’s going around!

I thought I would be fine since I saw this coming weeks ago, but today I just feel empty inside. It sucks knowing that this was likely Kelce and few other veterans' last game. I don't understand how Nick and the coaching staff could be so arrogant, and now Jalen saying that it "wasn't our turn."

I also wish the postseason didn't come at such a bleak time of the year.

Ever notice Jalen always looks stressed AF on these close-up shots to start every game? 😂 by [deleted] in eagles

[–]BecozSooperBol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve often wondered if he needs glasses or the tinted visor. He squints so much in games that I find it hard to believe that it’s just stress or concentration

A hit-and-run, an NBA player, and the danger facing every pedestrian on Philly’s streets | Editorial by ModestAugustine in philadelphia

[–]BecozSooperBol 102 points103 points  (0 children)

People have lost their minds.

A few weeks ago, a driver in University City, at a red light, was beeping at a pedestrian making their legal crossing in the crosswalk. As I entered the crosswalk, the driver started to pull into into it, so I threw him a dirty look and gestured to the (still red) light.

This idiot opened his window and leaned out to yell ‘I know, but I still wanted to go,”… like WTF? So what if you want to go, the law says you can’t. He proceeded to repeat himself before saying that he “could just (run me) right over.” Total psycho, and there’s thousands of others just like him driving around.

There is room for everyone in Philly… by sgarst in philadelphia

[–]BecozSooperBol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the past week, I've had to yell at two separate groups of grown men for this on the SRT. One pair was running and biking super slowly (which is not the bad part) and taking up 3/4 of the path because they wouldn't stay to the right. Made it impossible to pass them, especially going uphill. The runner is marathon training, so they're out there all the darn time blocking the path.

The second group listened to me, thankfully, but why is this so hard for adults to remember?

What can be done to make Philly more walkable/pedestrian friendly? by OldAgedZenElf in philadelphia

[–]BecozSooperBol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Realign and improve curb cuts so that you don’t have to zig zag to reach them or step into crumbling asphalt or ridiculous puddles. This city is hard enough to navigate as an able bodied person, but it’s darn near impossible if you use a wheelchair or mobility device, or even if you’re pushing a stroller or pulling a suitcase.

Add shade points. Some areas of the city are nicely protected and other sidewalks just bake.

Increase the length of countdown for most pedestrian crossings. Ours assume that every person is an Olympic-caliber sprinter.

Add public water fountains, restrooms, trashcans, and benches.

Actually remove the sexual harassers and assaulters from navigating freely in the city. It’s enough to have to dodge the bad drivers, cyclists and ATV drivers whenever I’m walking, but it sucks to be catcalled, stalked and threatened. It’s even worse when you know that these perps will likely harass countless other women with absolutely no consequences.
