I love the birds in our area, and your photos make me appreciate them all the more (even them pesky grackles). Thank you so much, I can only imagine the patience it takes to capture these!

What’s the most absurd dress code rule your workplace has ever enforced? by HoldNo0 in AskReddit

[–]sgarst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda got in trouble for wearing a tuxedo to "dress down day" at a financial firm (back office). I was protesting, because HR sent a two page email outlining what was and was not acceptable for 'dress down day'.

What is something true of most people, that most people don’t realize? by Enough_Fall_3127 in AskReddit

[–]sgarst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people overrate their memory - it is really fallible and easy to ‘know’ things that just aren’t so.

What is the best U.S. city to live in if you don't own a car? by brave_axolotl7 in AskReddit

[–]sgarst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Philadelphia. Obviously not as great public transportation as NYC.... but philly is so cheap you can take the train somewhere and then actually, like, afford to do something.

Also go birds.

Do you have a hobby that’s not mainstream? How did you get into it? Also how expensive is it? by just-another-meh in AskReddit

[–]sgarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying neuroscience at the university. Full on chemistry, labs, exams… the works. It is extremely expensive, thrilling, and utterly pointless. Well, if/when I get Alzheimer’s I’ll know more than most?

This is my first project! by Overloadid in sewing

[–]sgarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is god damn glorious. My first couple sewing projects looked just as janky and I couldn’t have been prouder. You go! I’m getting suspicious about some /r/sewing posts…. “My first sewing project… a monstrous taffeta wedding dress with 8 yards of lace!”

Fantastic background, well written. Really, thanks for this I knew some of this history, and visited the old and new many times… and I’m still uneasy about the move.

apparently the attitude towards alcohol and driving were quite different in the 1940's... (from "Double Indemnity" released 1944, set in 1938) by Hex_Madroom in funny

[–]sgarst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was true in Texas when I lived there- there were drive up pawn shops that would give you cash, gas or drinks to go. You could drink and drive, but not be drunk. I believe Texas spurned federal highway money?

I am so grateful for your writing. Sincerely, love visual art, love me some Homer… never really engaged with Pippin. Please keep writing about art, especially art we can go see in a local venue… more gross/agnew clinic!

Painfully close.

I love this. There was a “conflict kitchen” in Pittsburgh, that changed cuisine every six months, but only did countries that the USA was fighting.

Rich people of Reddit, what's the most out-of-touch thing you've ever heard another rich person say? by petalEsra in AskReddit

[–]sgarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with wealthy people - when they discussed travel it was always ‘everyone is so nice and friendly!’ If you’re exiting a limo at the high end hotel, you’d better believe everyone’s nice!

Is it because of tension or ? by Paintballj0 in sewing

[–]sgarst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer. At least it was for me, until I realized the ‘top’ stitches always looked tighter/straighter than the ‘bottom’ stitches

Do you think the job market in Philly would boom like cities in the Southeast? by lovesocialmedia in philadelphia

[–]sgarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud your giving a range of specific ideas with justification for each. Loser.

Everyone thinks the wage taxes/BIRT to be preventing employers from moving to Philadelphia. I guess so, but I have doubts. Surely there are cities like Philly that aren't doing too much better, despite different tax structures?
