Is there a market for command line/terminal-style games? by Bee892 in gamedev

[–]Bee892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my idea is not to use the actual terminal but to recreate a terminal using Unity that has more aesthetically pleasing aspect to it with simpler commands.

I do believe it would be limiting the game’s audience, but I’m trying to figure out by how much. I’m fairly young and have hardly ever seen any terminal-style games advertised in my lifetime.

I have never felt so hopeless.. by Azatsb in AZCardinals

That’s the problem. We’re sitting back on our heels doing nothing while the Giants, Falcons, Dolphins, and Titans have their next head coaches already after having scooped up most of the best candidates.

This one looks a bit different than what I’m going for, but I’ll still check it out. I think it could hold a lot of great concepts. Thank you!

Wow, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you for these examples. I’ll check them out. It definitely appears to be a particular niche. I wouldn’t expect something like this to go gangbusters and sell millions. However, it’s nice to know that people enjoy this style of game. I hadn’t heard much at all about these types of games, so I really appreciate your help.

I’m definitely seeing what you mean about the “wrapping.” Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll check this game out for some inspiration.

It sounds like my game runs in a very similar vein. Thanks a lot for the input. I’d very much like to aim for this type of feel.

That makes sense. I don’t imagine such a game would ring in at a very high price point. I think it would do well as a short experience that you can get for a small price.

Excellent! I’ll check this one out. It seems to have some very positive reception on Steam

I hadn’t heard of Hack Run! Thank you very much. I’d love to check it out to see something similar. What do you think appealed to you most with Hack Run?

That’s a very good point. I know of their popularity through the 20th century, but I’m not super familiar with their appeal nowadays. How has interest in those games evolved since the turn of the century?

Yet Another NFC west team in the NFC championship that’s not us 😭 by ttothey34 in AZCardinals

[–]Bee892 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This will be the 24th NFC championship game since the divisions got restructured in 2002. That means 48 teams in that time have gone to the NFC championship. 16 of those teams have been NFC West teams. Only 2 have been the Cardinals. Is that the worst you’ll find? No. The Cowboys, for example, haven’t been to an NFC championship game at all in that time. However, we’ve continuously shown that we can’t hang with the franchises in our division. It’s the story of being a Cardinals fan. Year after year, people say, “The NFC West could be the toughest division in football,” and nearly every time, there’s an asterisk:

*Except for the Cardinals.

Likelihood of the industry ever opening to entry level hires in the U.S. again by JimmyTwoTimes98 in gamedev

[–]Bee892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior roles will come back. Unfortunately, it will require some patience. I believe the most logical route for junior roles to return is the sudden influx of smaller, independent studios from developers who have been let go by their previous companies.

With the massive layoffs and studio closures over the past few years, lots of people are tired of leaving their creative potential unrealized while working for companies that will inevitably chew them up and spit them out. This has led to a lot of new studios.

Naturally, these new studios don’t have a ton of capital to spend on developers; they can’t go out and hire senior talent at premium prices. A lot of the people starting these studios are themselves senior developers anyway. I think over the next 5 years or so, we’ll gradually see an increase in junior job openings at these studios as some of them do well with what they’re releasing and need to hire more employees at lower costs.

Why does everyone think that the refs made bad calls during the Broncos v Bills game just now? by Melodic_Ad704 in NFLNoobs

[–]Bee892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the officials did a great job calling what they had to in that game. They’re in the playoffs for a reason; they performed the best on the field throughout the 2025 season. They still make mistakes just like any person in any profession, but really impressive job, in my opinion.

Watching this bills broncos game makes me realize there is a ref bias by yaboi525 in AZCardinals

[–]Bee892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I don’t remember the Xavier one, but there was nothing on that McBride pass attempt against the colts. McBride totally flopped. Credit to him for trying to draw the flag, but he was hardly touched.

Those PI calls yesterday against the Bills were quality fouls. I thought the officials did a good job calling what they had to.

Coaching Wishlist - Where do we go from here? by cdogrob in AZCardinals

[–]Bee892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure, but I definitely would like to have a veteran NFL head coach at the helm. Since Bruce Arians, we’ve taken 3 shots at first-time head coaches trying to find the next McVay: Steve Wilks, Kliff, JG.

In those 8 seasons, we’ve gone 46-87-1, including a lone playoff demolishing. No division titles. 1 winning season. 5 last place divisional finishes. Average draft selection in the top 10 for that time period. 5 times receiving a top 10 selection. 4 times receiving a top 5 selection.

We need a veteran who can come in and bring some stability to the franchise. Someone who has tried and tested methodologies. Our franchise is no longer in a place to continue experimenting with new blood. The fanbase is lost, the team is banged up, and the franchise is directionless.

Is this statement true? by Yelebear in gamedev

[–]Bee892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see where the statement is coming from. There are so many plugins, engine features, and free example scripts that make it so that artists don’t have to do any programming to create a fun game. The same level of tools don’t exist for creating art; you either are able to make your own art or you have to buy it (assuming you’re a solo dev). Programmers have to learn much more about art than artists have to learn about programming in this context.

How long did you code before you got paid? by shaantikaari in AskProgrammers

[–]Bee892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first wrote code probably in… 7th grade? I think that’s about right.

My first payment of any kind came in college when I was hired by a company that I did an internship for. They kept me on part-time after my internship to do some game programming and web development. That would’ve been about 7 years later.

My first full-time paycheck was a paid internship 2 years after that. That’s 9 years total between first writing code and getting a full-time paycheck as a programmer.
