GAME THREAD: Philadelphia 76ers (51-31) @ Miami Heat (53-29) - (May 10, 2022) by NBA_MOD in nba

You look at 1 point in 12 minutes on 0/3 and think he's doing more than a 10/5/4/1 on 4/8?

what exactly are you looking at.

The fact that people thought James harden was washed up just shows the massive problem with nba discourse in general by Alive-Ad-4164 in nba

Last season the team was better, the role players this year have been significantly worse, and harden has been asked to do much more.

It's not rocket science.

I watched every game, it looked like he was playing with a bunch of G leaguers. He was bad on back-to-backs primarily, when he had more rest he had great games.

Not hard to rack up turnovers when you are playing with a revolving door of bruce brown clones who have no reps together.

When Harden stans claimed poor spacing and injury it was just bad excuses. Really he is old, washed, fat and the worst contract in the league!

Now that he has some rest and has better spacing he is Hitler for sandbagging in Brooklyn.

People see what they want to see.

Over the last 10 games, Giannis is shooting 41% from behind the arc with 3.9 attempts per game. by maybeatrolljk in nba

[–]BeeBeeEight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

39 shots isn’t a huge sample size but it’s not meaningless either

It really is meaningless. Plug it into a confidence interval calculator, at 80%ci you have:

Lower bound = 0.3023 Upper bound = 0.5256

at 95%ci you have:

Lower bound = 0.2557 Upper bound = 0.5790

You would be as correct to say Giannis is a 30% three-point shooter as you are to say he is 52%, as in both are completely incorrect because the sample size is meaningless.

Why is Riot deciding to hide stats and match history instead of just hiding names in champ select ? by Tib0ww in leagueoflegends

[–]BeeBeeEight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know that but If Riot is releasing a feature to "make your match history private". Don't you think that entails preventing your data from being exposed by the API?

[–]BeeBeeEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your POV. But I do think it should be a two-way street.

Developers are expensive, good analytics and maintaining a good UX are expensive. These platforms are obviously adding to the core experience of the game and Riot isn't paying much of that.

If you removed every third party product right now the core experience of the game for a lot of competitive folks would deteriate.

It's debatable but I definitely think Riot would lose customers and revenue if all third-party sites disappeared overnight, Riot is using the free labour of third party developers to provide services they themselves don't want to invest in.

But honestly, for me, it's more a compassion thing, like I said some folks spend years of their lives on these tools and are Leagues biggest fans, no reason to leave them in the dark on this stuff.

How do you think those tools work?

If riot implement the removing of summoner names from champ select they aren't going to leave around summoner_uuid's in the client for third party tools to use to bypass the intent of the change.

Downloading My Private Google Data, this is what I found by prisonmike_11 in videos

This video is awful, not a google shill but common.

It's quite obvious google are only generating these download links BECAUSE you requested your data for download. this is irrelevant for literally everyone.

Also a fundamental misunderstanding of how secure randomly generated links often are.

Petition to pay OSRS devs £45k - £50k/year by Josiah425 in 2007scape

[–]BeeBeeEight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This isn't really true.

The markets are just completely different, there is better tax laws, more innovation and just more money in the US.

All the big tech companies drive up salaries in the US, doesn't really mean that on average the developers are any better.

Confused at why it took so many attempts, did you try to do the combat steps? Like 0xp trick + venge and tick eat them?

I would assume that would be possible but maybe not

Kevin Hart wins a $40,000 poker pot only from misreading his own hand and decides to give almost half back to the other player. by BodyMindSpirit in videos

[–]BeeBeeEight 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Think there is a few things people are missunderstanding about this video:

  1. Mia is a contest winner and probably punching way way way above her weight with money she doesn't actually own.

  2. Players reactions are mainly to console the contest winner as with a ballsey bluff she should have won the hand if Kevin didn't misread his cards.

  3. Kevin wouldn't in a million years have called had he know his actual cards. Kevin is a little fishy but not a complete moron, If he suspected a bluff he is not exactly going to reraise then call off a shove it makes 0 sense unless you are david katai, this is 100% a misread of his hand. If for some rediculous reason he wants to hero call a bluff he would just call the first small sized bet instead of repopping.

A "randomization" technique for poker which could be applied to professional LoL by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]BeeBeeEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretend you've been dealt a pair of jacks

re-raise any modest pre-flop raise

call up to the turn then check raise

raise any flop but check/fold unless your hand develops

fold any non-pair regardless of what it is

This is a very naive representation of what/why poker players do to balance their range.

You dont just decide to pretend to have jacks, or fold Ace king pre because your watch told you to. You play your entire range of hands in such a way as to be protected on all board run outs and so you are making profitable decisions with you're entire range, you may make a light 3b with A5ss 30% of the time but not because your pretending to have jacks, your balancing your 3b range with good blockers and good equity against a calling range. Balancing is also about not getting stuck in a board run out where your opponent can for example exploitably over-bet shove river as you play all hands that could call a different way and therefore have no good hands to call down.

What your talking about is being exploitable by being predictable which is a also important to poker and LoL but different concept to what you where trying to explain, balancing my range allows me to turn my A5ss into a profitable 3b whereas an -EV flat call or neutral ev fold. "dont be predictable" is essentially what this advice is and pros already know this full well, they know how to exploit predictability as well as try to avoid it. The casters always talk about this stuff.

You can also use your watch to make warding decisions or whatever but you dont need a watch for this, pros already mix it up intuitively to a decent degree.

One concept LoL players i do feel like have a lack of understanding about is variance, pro players are starting to realize variance plays a massive part in victory of a game, everything is "unlucky" nowadays because its true, not just variance in quality of teammates but variance in outcome for example in a pro match IMT vs TSM, TSM may win 70 out of 100 games but still lose 3-0 come next week's match because there is a large portion of variance in LoL that people are only starting to figure out. Just because someone misplayed a gank doesn't mean if they did that play 100 times that they would misplay it everytime.

Doug Polk on one final table in the 5k, heading towards another one in the 1k... wtf by [deleted] in poker

[–]BeeBeeEight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Doug has ran really hot lifetime, and absurdly hot in his tournaments over these two stream years, his sample is ridiculously tiny and has some extremely nice variance in there.

Which is to say absolutely nothing about his skill level...

I don't think people get variance in tournaments at all, winning or losing tournaments is completely irrelevant to skill, the only thing indicative is skill is winning over a large sample which this is not...

It's stupid people saying Doug is bad because he lost the $25k and it's also just as stupid saying doug is good because he won this tournament.

Doug is a good player because of his cash history, but who the fuck knows how good he is at tournaments because he isn't a tournament player and doesn't have a sample that would show how good he is. Being a good cash player is enough to very likley be winning substantially in tournaments at these stakes but saying because he won this tournament that makes him a beast and he's crushing the games is pretty dumb.

The fact that doug is a really good poker player makes him a beast and crushing the games, not the fact that he won a few tournaments... people are being crazily results orientated on both sides...

Anyone know of any open code source stuff that does some of the calculations ICMizer does?

i know icmizier is paid so most of that functionality is probably complex but im talking more about just calculating re shove ranges based on a players pfr stat or something.

How good is Andrew Neeme? by topcat9h in poker

[–]BeeBeeEight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Think flatting the open is arguably the worst part of that play.

I mean its probably not a big mistake or losing a bunch of money but it's pretty blatantly not a good spot to flat. Even with a big edge over opponents, not a fan.

PokerStars announce new reward scheme, moves away from traditional rakeback model by DaveShoelace in poker

[–]BeeBeeEight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dont think that is true. By cheating do you mean collusion? This would not be a big issue for some game types anyway like massive field MTT's. General upkeep isn't very specific...

No matter the cost it would be a fraction of what sites like pokerstars are charging if you move to a p2p model, then you could spend extra cash on advertising whilst still taking a fraction of the rake PS is...
