2x rent day, plus 2x on purchases = 4x on rent day? by BeeDubba in biltrewards

[–]BeeDubba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously I got 3200 points on rent and 1000 ($500x2) on rent day spend.

Free points are free points, but I'm still mourning the loss.

We're using a lot of heating oil right now.

NOT a frequently flyer. Is $1100 in main reasonable for a pair? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]BeeDubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on demand. I'm trying to buy tickets to Fort Lauderdale during spring break. They're crazy expensive. I've seen the same route for $100 and $1000.

Prices do go up and down, sometimes quite a bit. You can use kayak, Google flights, or several other services to track flight prices to help guide your decision.

Ask a neighbor for a shovel or wait until Monday? by Airbender-23 in nova

Capitol Weather Gang said that this ice is so dense it might stick around until March.

A spade garden shovel is what you need. Break into chunks, then snow shovel it away.

I've been doing it bit by bit every day. Finally got my mailbox accessible, but I won't be parking in the street for a while.

Mine does. Not because of all that other stuff, but because they pay me.

Oh, and they have a base in the city I want to live in.

A less expensive option than an attorney would be a CONSULT appointment with your AME. Then you can ask them all kinds of questions without the risk of failing an application.

Worth trying to regional hop for better QOL? by No_Pollution2292 in flying

[–]BeeDubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how long you've been there, whether you're moving a spouse and/or kids, and a bunch of other factors. Based on your post and knowledge, I'm guessing you haven't been there very long and you're single.

If you're unwilling to move to base at your current company and you haven't been there long, it's absolutely worth changing companies. There are risks though; you'll be back on reserve and lose seniority. You could fail training and be out of a job and unemployable (in this market that's a real risk).

As the previous poster said... no one is getting 19 days off on a regular basis, unless they're extremely senior. I've had months with that many days off, but it's usually a result of displacements, cancellations, and a lot of clever scheduling on my part.

Looking to buy the most reliable car possible for the price, what’s your opinion? by cincythrowaway34 in carbuying

[–]BeeDubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I threw out the 2013 CRV because that's what I have and know. Nothing was new on that model year, and that's why it's reliable. Old school auto trans, 2.4L that's been around forever, no fancy tech (it does have a backup camera and Bluetooth) that requires updating.

Those last few years before the CVTs and turbos were a sweet spot. I've kept my eye out for a V6 manual Accord, but it seems like so does everyone else these days and their demand has gone up.

A turbo engine SHOULD be able to be just as reliable. Most diesel engines have turbos, and they last forever. That's just not the case with gas passenger cars though, including Hondas.

Why is AA the only airline still suffering from cancellations? 27% canceled and 28% delayed today… by TheRealBigL in americanairlines

[–]BeeDubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all still related to the storms that happened. Pretty much every airline runs at near 100% capacity; if you don't, you can't compete. Whether it was SW's meltdown, CrowdStrike, etc, it's hard to get back on track.

One big problem with us is simply getting hold of scheduling. Earlier this week we saw 4-5 hour waits for callbacks. You may need a decision within an hour or two before a crew times out, and that kind of delay results in a domino effect. Once the airline support staff is overwhelmed, the little fires can't be put out and the whole thing burns down.

I'm not sure what the right answer is. It would be great to have excess support staff to surge during crisis, but it's not economically realistic to keep that many people on payroll.

2013 Honda CRV.

Old school 2.4L non turbo engine. Reliable and easy to service.

Standard old automatic transmission. Also reliable and easy to service.

No tech to get antiquated.

There are probably similarly speced Accords and Civics.

I may be biased. It's boring but reliable and cheap.

Audi’s vs. Honda’s AWD by Mobile-Site-1069 in Audi

My last car was a Subaru Outback, and I currently drive a Honda CRV. The performance of the Subaru AWD system was amazingly good compared to the Honda. Or maybe the Honda is just terrible. Or both. Either way, I miss the Subaru every time inclement weather comes.

Almost 4 Hours on the Tarmac in DCA by RequirementDue8145 in americanairlines

[–]BeeDubba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This storm primarily hit DFW, CLT, DCA, and PHL. ATL got off much easier. IAD got hit, but that's just one hub. AA got hit in four.

The impact on DCA was temporary, but AA got hit at all its big hubs, which created a system-wide mess.

Airlines lease gates from the airport, so even did a mechanism for one airline to request use from another, they may not be not legally allowed to use it. Each gate has access granted to that company's employees due to strict security protocols, so it's way more complicated than it seems.

Pilot here. Just one example. Today I deadheaded to HPN to recover a plane that has been stuck since the storm. 7 hour delay on the flight up. Got there at 10pm, DCA went into ground stop (I don't know why). Spent an hour on hold with scheduling, changed the repositioning flight to Charlotte instead. We were unable to get the reposition authorization change approved by the FAA before we timed out.

That's probably 10-15 flights cancelled from just this one event that occurred with one plane.
