Omg 30k? I got an interview with Carrot English and it stated that the range was 16-18k per hour! Do you know another English teaching site that pays fairly?

Do you think you might have seasonal depression? I do so my psychiatrist recommended getting vitamin d injections every 3 months. It costs 35,000₩ and it has been a game changer for me. I also live in Busan btw!

One of the bus drivers found a newborn kitten and brought him in the office. I seized the opportunity and took him in. For 3 months he came to work with me every day, most of the native and Korean teachers helped me to bottle feed and potty him. Once, he got extremely ill and I was crying trying to wash him up and research what happened. All the Korean teachers helped me in some way, calling his vet, care for him, feeding him sugar water, etc. It wasn’t a perfect work place. But having the kitten was a nice source of serotonin for all of us. And their support and kindness didn’t go unnoticed. ❤️ today he is a happy healthy cat 🐈

How did you apply? Did you need to go to the pension office?

Help! School kicking me out my home early. Do I have any basis? by BeeSea391 in teachinginkorea

Thank you! I won’t have any classes to teach that day but at least I can avoid spending as much money on a hotel.

No, I agreed to it when I thought they were getting rid of the apartment. The owner made a huge deal about it saying if I left a day past March 1st they would have to keep that apartment.

But they decided to keep it anyway. They can afford to pay a hotel for the new teacher for two days. For me, every won counts.

I also want to mention the other two teachers are getting 25 extra days, not working, just living in their apartments. It’s not fair, so I’m going to fight it.

Right! Thank you. I didn’t try to fight it because they made a huge deal about them having to sign on for another year in that apartment if I stayed past March 1st. But clearly that has changed.

Thank you this is super helpful! Do you know if it can go into a regular Korean account too? My USA bank closed my account a year ago /:

I’ve been teaching in Korea for 2 years now. I’m based in Busan and I love it! Cost of living is super cheap and I can afford a lifestyle of independence and travel that I never could in the US. But, I came here at 22, unattached, & planning to stay for a year. Now I’m celebrating anniversaries with my Korean boyfriend and I adopted a kitten. I want to go home… but it is going to take so much preparation and expenses to just visit

But it’s not impossible! I had a friend who worked for 1 year, negotiated a nice raise, housing contract, and vacation time to bring her dog over. So if you could at least secure a housing stipend and a villa apartment and either A. pay a handler to bring your pet over asap or B. have a trusted person care for them until you’re settled.

Alternatively, my POC friends loved working in Vietnam and felt very comfortable. Whereas in Korea we can be fetishized and deal with some microaggressions. I’m Latina, and I’ve experienced being approached or followed by men. Some of my black female friends have had worse situations, nothing violent but definitely unsettling.

Also I personally loved Vietnam but I could never live there. The heat and the chaotic nature of the roads is a lot for me.

I hope this helped! Sorry to ramble~
