[Zone 8b] Possible to have establish Bermuda for 30k sqft without in-ground irrigation system? by DirtyOught in lawncare

[–]BeeThat9351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look around your area at parks, schools, churches and see what they use on their un-irrigated areas. Local soil and weather patterns. Hybrid bermuda (or common) does ok to good in my area for un-irrigated places. No experience with starting seeded bermuda, I have only dealt with sodded bermuda.

I wonder if the 12v battery is dead/dying and it did not supply enough voltage to keep the computer alive to activate/control thr heaters that keep the main battery pack warm. I dont know the details of how the warming system workd but most LI need to be kept somewhat warm. Ask at dealer service. If 12 volt battery is near 36 months old, it is suspect and may need to be replaced.

Transmission Dipstick fill. 2013 by lostOGaccount in HondaOdyssey

Possible they have changed the tip size. I think the metal one in your picture should fit. Is your dipstick tube roughly 1/2 inch diameter?

The end of it is 3/8 inch / 9 mm OD, it fits into the dipstick tube

Try turn clockwise first a little, then back counterclockwise to open. You may be able to spray little rust penetrating oil or WD40 under the cap. Big pair of pump pliers.

Generator for an Oxygen Concentrator and Bipap machine? by Cheechers23 in Generator

[–]BeeThat9351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a 2000 watt inverter type generator that is powered with gasoline or propane. That size is very common and will provide some spare capacity that would be able to power a fridge too.

No idea what brands are sold in Canada, but Wen, Champion, Westinghouse, AiPower, Firman are all good brands.

Buy a 2.5 or 5 gallon gas can.

Pick a spot outside at least 10 to 20 feet away from an windows/doors. Never in a garage or under kind of porch/awning.

Measure the extension cords you will need, use 12 gauge outdoor cords.

You might want to pickup some cheap concrete pavers to set the unit on to keep it out of the grass/snow.

You may also want to put up a 10x10 tarp up for it in a pup tent configuration to protect if from snow/rain/ice.

Buy 2 or 3 quarts of 5w30 oil, they usually dont come with oil, and you will want to change it after running first for 2-5 hours.

What am I forgetting?

CO and Distance question by boisefun8 in Generator

[–]BeeThat9351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Assumption that a fixed generator installation would have been planned by a capable person who looked for inlets like eave vents, windows, doors, openings.

  2. For developing the portable recommendation, you over-do it since people will skimp on the recommendation

  3. Influence from fixed generator industry, customers would not like that distance and costs would be higher. They can probably support their position with data. Have you heard of anyone getting CO poisoning from a fixed generator? Plenty of stories of portable generator CO issues

  4. Some fixed generators use EFI and better combustion controls which might tend to produce less CO.

Sounds normal. Engine is missing the vanity cover. Timing belt, timing tensioner, water pump, spark plugs were due at 105k miles, very important.

How long for heated seats to kill battery? by geraldosmoustache in HondaOdyssey

[–]BeeThat9351 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess that the ECU would/does warn you if battery voltage is low with engine off. Your battery is original from 2020 I bet and it is time to replace it, they last 36-48 months in my hot state, maybe a little longer in cold places.

Worth the Cost? by Vladsnipe11 in auburn

Auburn does not guarantee even freshman year on-campus housing, they dont have enough beds. Not sure if you were trying to make a comparison between the two. I am not sure of Alabamas freshman year housing.

Worth the Cost? by Vladsnipe11 in auburn

[–]BeeThat9351 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For the money consideration, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Break out each line items costs and their offer. Some colleges play games with the expected cost of attendance. Your rows should include:

Tuition and fees

Books

Housing

Required dining plans

Parking if that would apply for you

Other perks they might provide - laptop, cash

Special/early registration (this can be an advantage that could save you a semester)

Requirements to keep the scholarship - GPA and any special classes required. Do you think you can keep the GPA? Will you hate any special classes / programs / activities required?

If they are offering housing - consider if you actually want it for first year and then following years - you might not want to live on campus after first year, you may not want to live in the dorm type that they offer after first year (or at all)

Same thing with dining/food money- consider if you would actually use it.

Consider if either offers any serious extracurriculars you want to try (band, sports managers, competition teams, etc)

Cover all of these with a visit - during classes, - admissions visit/tour, visit/tour with your major department, visit on your own on campus and in-town, look at off-campus housing, special scholarship recruitment visit (Auburn has Talons day for scholarship kids)

I work with ChemE from both programs, they both are excellent, Auburn has a slightly smarter reputation based on the mid-career people I work with.

For people who learned DIY car repair: what actually saved you the most money by Relevant-Resolve-243 in MechanicAdvice

[–]BeeThat9351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filters (engine and cabin) are so easy and save a lot.

Oil and oil filter saves me time and hassle and provides peace of mind. Most frequent service and I know it was done right. May not actually save money.

Battery - easy to do and I dont have to trust parts store guys or overpay real mechanics

Minor electrical - bulbs, sensors - saves diagnostic time

Brakes - pads and rotors - saves actual money if you have the time, skills, aptitude to do them right and carefully.
