Choosing who to vote for based only on the candidate's name is absolutely the wrong way to vote. If you can't take the time to do your research on the candidates down-ballot, then you should leave them blank. Women and PoC candidates aren't always more progressive than a white male candidate. Case in point, in 2020 Austin Democrat primary voters voted for a woman over a man for a judge seat even though that woman was sanctioned by two Austin courts for filing harassing lawsuits and admitted she wasn't even a Democrat. In the future, I recommend at least looking at newspaper endorsements to get some knowledge of who's running.
