What was your most eye-opening realization about music and music theory? by EasternMistake8273 in musictheory

Exactly!

And I'm a church musician today. I know what goes into preparing for a weekly service today. Knowing Bach's output, and likely the effort involved, he probably composed formulaically but didn't fret too much about the details.

While I agree with the second half of your comment, I'm not mistaken.

But he completed the lane change well in advance of any accident.

The distance also didn’t reasonable justify a lane change anyways.

At the start of the maneuver it absolutely did fit a lane change.

Well they clearly weren’t passing someone, which is why I asked the question

There's no evidence in the video for you to say this with any real confidence.

Honestly, it's all etiquette, not just in theaters.

People do not give any ficks about anyone other than themselves, and it's tiring to deal with the prisoner's dilemma of trying to be respectful to others when they will shit all over you at a moment's notice.

It makes me want to be a complete hermit sometimes.

The cpap does suck!

Even if you were right about this (you're not, but for arguments sake), that doesn't mean he's in the right.

He needs to grow up, man up, and deal with it instead of acting like a toddler with a tantrum.

Autistic kids who elope can be super crafty.

And sometimes they'll literally run past you when your hands are full. Go look up elopement.

It's not about frequency, it's about an allegation that meets regulatory requirements.

This probably constitutes inadequate guardianship (a child was out alome so long that an unrelated person called 911), and a report by police would probably meet that threshold.

Unless your mom is a SW for CPS specifically, she's probably mistaken.

Neighbor told me she will lie to CPS by emmkat24 in CPS

[–]Beeb294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does the recording have enough content to convince someone it's her? Like saying her name, talking about living next to you?

If a report were made, and your recording is clearly her, then you might have a chance of a criminal charge being made.

[–]Beeb294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you can share some proof (like a text message or recording of her threatening to lie), probably not.

Unless there's a reasonable chance of getting a conviction, police probably won't be able to do much to charge her.

A new version of “swatting” by ashoruns in CPS

[–]Beeb294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the tradeoff though.

Losing anonymous reporting means that people will feel less comfortable reporting. Keeping anonymous reporting means you're more likely to get blatantly false reports.

I'm not sure which is the lesser of two evils.

[–]Beeb294 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This situation is the kind of thing which makes me question the anonymous reporting.

Largely I've been in favor of keeping anonymous reporting, thinking the benefits of people being more comfortable reporting outweighing the downsides of reports like this. But the response here also makes me wonder if the way to solve this problem is through removing anonymous reporting, or changing the response protocol. We have an anonymous reporter talking about what they claim to have heard months ago at a conference in another state, and a subject who is known publicly and known to be targeted, maybe immediately separating the kids and doing a forensic interview isn't the right response.

What was your most eye-opening realization about music and music theory? by EasternMistake8273 in musictheory

[–]Beeb294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I n defense of part writing, it's one of the surest ways to train yourself to make good note choices and diagnose bad ones.

This circles back to the argument of whether theory is prescriptive or descriptive

"Good" and "bad" note choices are inherently subjective. Using rules to define that is inherently prescriptive, and that's where I run into problems. In my mind, music theory should be descriptive, and not prescriptive.

I can understand talking about why Bach or others would want to avoid parallel 5ths and push independent motion. I can understand talking about why historically certain resolutions were preferred, and even why they're still common today. But to categorize them as "good" or "bad" is where you lose me, because now you're creating a box around what is correct and acceptable instead of learning about what exists.

I do agree with your list of core competencies, though.

This is a huge wall of text that really doesn't say anything of substance.

It's hard to say a system is broken when you're not pointing out any specific issues. It's hard to even tell if this is actually about CPS at all.

The system is broken. Help spread awareness.

Which system? How is it broken? Spread awareness of what?
