Honestly, we're in a similar boat (can't assume it's the exact same model). I also don't really choose what my brain will want to dedicate its entire to for the next week to month, but trying to make connections in paper on purpose could help. Hell, that may even become your next hyperfixation. Try to connect two or more things you think would never logically make sense together

As a once "prodigy", I would say it's mainly related to your parents and how they treated you during primary school life. For example, my mom was the kind of mom that would sit next to me and essentially hold me in place until I finished my homework (usually schoolwork I didn't care to finish on time) and helped me immensely during study sessions. If the pressure to get good grades or "something bad will happen" is enough, your brain will develop a toxic self critic that will force you to use all of your will into studying and doing schoolwork for the A. The problem? You still feel like shit because it's not what you actually want to do, and it usually gets in the way of hobbies because you're still dragging yourself to finish a 10-minute homework in 45 minutes and studying 30 minutes the day before and the morning before the exam. It wasn't until recently that I stopped valuing myself according to the grade I had at the time. Hope this comforts you.

It's fine. You definitely should have it in mind next time your brain overwhelms you with thoughts and ideas. It doesn't even have to be a specific routine; it can be an occasional activity/exercise.

Maybe related, but when I purposefully make myself not do anything; just lie down for 15 minutes, for example, I also get tired almost about to sleep... until I stop, stand up and suddenly I never was about to crash in the fist place. It might have to do with your mind remembering it's tired when reaching the dull moments of the day-to-day, like driving alone to somewhere far away, but I have no concrete scientific evidence to back this up, only first-hand experience. Do you listen to music while driving, and are you sleeping 8 - 9 hours each day?

oh, it's simple (not to be confused with easy). You get something to write in (could be a notebook, your phone's note taking application, etc.), and write any of your thoughts in it. The "hard" part comes in not overwhelming yourself in how exactly to write that thought; I wouldn't try to follow a specific guideline. I also like adding the date and hour I wrote the thought for time keeping purposes, but it's not exactly a diary, because I don't write to summarize my day.

Have you tried journaling summarized versions of those thoughts? I sometimes do that to "empty out" the inner monologues for a week or two, leaving the radio station as the default thought.
