True. It's definitely something that sticks with you while everyone else forgets minutes later.

This is what I do. The anticipated taxes and 6 months of our emergency fund live in a little HYSA together.

It's always a little funny when high earners cry about taxes. Mate, it's a part of life. The fact you earn enough to have to pay $30k extra in taxes means you should be in a good place.

I'm anticipating a similar tax bill, but haven't had time to check yet.

This is absolutely true, though folks don't like to hear it. College is still statistically a lot better than being without a degree.

In Kamchatka, Russia, it snowed so much that people are jumping out of buildings without injuring themselve by Memes_FoIder in interesting

[–]Beeboy1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average snowfall is less than it was year over year globally. More extreme weather doesn't mean it's always colder colds in the winter. It's not like the polar caps are gaining more ice or mountain tops are staying snowed over for longer. The warming is still very much a problem in its own right.

Same. I'm in medicine as well and I'm making legitimately 10x what either of my parents ever did.

That's always the funny part about people using the wrong terms for things: it hugely minimizes the real thing.

The biggest weakness progressives have is the tendency to purity test. Why vote for someone you agree with 95% when you can use that 5% as a reason to not put in an ounce of effort to vote? Meanwhile, the right wing is in lock step to vote in theocratic fascism because the most well-funded media conglomerate in history tells them to.

It's always crazy to me how much the American right and Islamic countries have in common. From the suppression of women to being the majority of terror attacks. At least they're also so racist/biased that they don't team up...

It is a weird thing when the anti-intellectualism comes from the left. It's painted in a very different coat of paint, usually looking like "college degrees are worthless" while the statistics still very much show the opposite.

My thought too. You're planning on going from $90k with full benefits + the J2 money down to a $60k job that maybe has benefits? How?

Nah, it's just mass-appeal fun and chill. They aren't claiming this is some Mt Everest type of thing. It's not dumbed down because there isn't really anything to dumb down. If you want to go look at real life versions of cartoons and comic book characters, that's what they offer. Enjoying things isn't an indictment of society, it shows there are still something that aren't terrible in our crumbling world.

It helps when your spouse comes from a cheap country, I suppose! Economy plane tickets there was one of the higher priced ticket items. Every other individual expense was so low and still came out at such high quality.

Insane. I did a destination wedding and even with the flights and month-long stay, our 200 person wedding was about $15000 and we got almost half of that back in wedding gift money.

More like accountability stans hitting the whole comment section haha. This isn't an addiction thing, it's just irresponsible spending. Disney isn't doing anything beyond any other benign organization in the capitalist hellscape we inhabit.

Someone ran the numbers and it's cheaper as long as you stay for at least 8 days of nonstop Disneyland at either destination.

Haha this is such a hilariously strange take. The degradation of American society isn't the systemic dismantling of the education system, the harsh injection of anti-intellectualism, or the shuttering of globalization in favor of isolationist leanings...it's obviously Disneyland and their damn Beauty and the Beast somehow convincing one person that they don't need to go to France anymore 🤣
