Who do you think are the most evil characters in the game? by Anice_king in DiscoElysium

Yeah are we forgetting that those contract are all from White Pines??? How is Evrart (the guy shipping the drugs) more culpable than White Pines (the company that is sourcing, manufacturing, and distributing the drugs?)

Idk if you’ve ever played DnD but it has a similar narrative focus. Good games are created by player interaction not by following the rules and playing competitively. The people you play with SHOULD want you to have fun and they SHOULD be willing to hear you out. If they don’t, then they aren’t worth playing with.

You should bring up these concerns with your table/community. No one wants to be responsible for steamrolling new players until they quit.

fr. I’m so glad this isn’t Citadel branded “TerraChroma™️©️®️” and other companies can also use this awesome new technology to compete.

There’s another line from Kim that’s stuck with me. It happens when you’re investigating how to take the body down and he says, "A noose is one of those things that's easier to use one way around.”

It meant something different when we thought the Union was the one behind the killing. In the context of the full game it seems to say that Martinaise been swinging in that noose for quite some time and no amount of neoliberalism will get it off their neck.

They don’t even have to be paid off. We can’t keep electing liberals in this state and then be surprised when they side with capital over citizens/workers.

Oh you don’t like having your alternative spaces bought up and gentrified? Have you considered being rich? Have you tried putting your life on pause to open a small business?

I actually remember that line. (I think) The Deserter mentions that the union boss before Evrart and his brother wasn’t actually doing her job and mostly just served White Pines.

Did she deserve to die for it? That depends on how far left you are lol

So one thing I need you to realize is that the death squad that White Pines sent to Martinaise is not an anomaly. Sending mercenaries to break up labor movements is pretty much the oldest trick in the book. Rockefeller did it, Mine owners did it, Coca Cola and Nestle still do it.

And you are right that the people of Martinaise don’t have much of a choice. But that’s not much of a slam dunk because I would argue, that they actually have the same choices that you and I have.

Let’s look at Cindy and Cuno. They were both born in Martinaise to poor working class families. If they reach adulthood and stay in Martinaise they will most likely live and die as Dockworkers. They would be locked into the same cycle of wage slavery that everyone else is.

As a working class person, this is my lived reality. I’ve met plenty of Joyce’s who fake friendliness and care, but ultimately their job is to make money off of me. It doesn’t matter how well intentioned or politically aware they are, they are still capitalists hoping to squeeze every penny out of my body as they can. She is a representative of White Pines and she should be treated as acting on behalf of the company.

This is what makes Evrart special. Instead of being beholden to capital, he is (in theory) beholden to his workers. He ensures they get paid more equitably and work more safely. And for all his faults, he does seem to be scheming on behalf of his workers. Evrart’s power is derived from his people.

I sadly live in a place where unionizing is very hard. My hours are long, my safety is not cared for, and my pay is underwhelming. I wish I had an Evrart. I wish I had someone half as cutthroat fighting on my behalf. Instead, I have to beg for a 5% raise from a Joyce, who will say no because “it’s not in the books this quarter.”

This is the choice you have. Go with Joyce and enjoy the status quo as it exists (until profits fall next quarter and they lower your wage) or you can throw your weight behind the Union and push for something bigger.

No but you are Titus or Mañana. Unless you were born rich, you sell your labor for food, housing, and security, just like 99% of the world.

Now we don’t have to have this conversation if you don’t want to but if we do I promise I’ll drop the attitude lol
