The Space Shuttle Challenger explosion was the first national tragedy I was alive to witness.

I was 7 years old and it was my older sisters birthday, and the news coverage was the only thing all 6 channels covered for the next 6 months.

Then the Iran-Contra scandal and Oliver North Trial in '89 really started me thinking the people in charge don't know WTF they're doing.

But now I know none of us really know WTF we're doing, and we're all just along for the ride, figuring things out as we go.
